About the Role The Interior Design Professional will support the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) READI contract by designing interior layouts and space utilization plans for temporary and permanent facilities supporting emergency response, disaster recovery, infrastructure restoration, and resiliency operations. This role provides interior design expertise for facility planning, occupant functionality, accessibility compliance, and space optimization in accordance with federal standards, life-safety requirements, and project-specific objectives.
The Interior Design Professional will develop interior space plans, furnishings layouts, finish selections, and design documentation that support operational requirements for emergency facilities, administrative spaces, shelters, healthcare facilities, and other recovery-related infrastructure. The position requires close coordination with architects, engineers, construction personnel, facility managers, and government stakeholders to ensure safe, functional, and efficient interior environments.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related design discipline from an accredited institution.
Accredited Interior Design Professional, such as NCIDQ-certified, registered interior designer, or equivalent recognized professional credential.
Professional experience in interior design, space planning, facility layouts, and construction documentation.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or comparable design software applications.
Strong knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements (ADA), life-safety standards, and interior space planning principles.
Experience preparing interior design drawings, specifications, finish schedules, and furniture layouts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and federal stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting USACE, FEMA, GSA, DoD, VA, or other federal facility and disaster recovery programs.
Experience designing temporary facilities, emergency operations centers, shelters, healthcare facilities, or administrative support spaces.
Familiarity with sustainable design principles, resilient facility planning, and federal workplace standards.
Experience using 3D visualization, rendering, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) applications.
Knowledge of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) procurement and installation processes.
Project management experience supporting facility renovation, rehabilitation, or reconstruction projects.
Responsibilities
Design interior layouts and space utilization plans for temporary and permanent facilities supporting emergency response and recovery operations.
Develop interior design concepts, floor plans, furniture layouts, finish selections, and material specifications in accordance with project requirements and federal standards.
Prepare interior design drawings, schedules, specifications, presentations, and construction documentation supporting facility projects.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, facility managers, and government representatives to ensure integrated and functional facility designs.
Ensure compliance with accessibility requirements, life-safety standards, building codes, and applicable federal facility criteria.
Support the selection and specification of furniture, fixtures, equipment, finishes, and interior materials appropriate for operational and recovery environments.
Conduct field assessments, site visits, and facility evaluations to support design development and project implementation.
Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and installation activities to verify compliance with approved design requirements.
Support project scheduling, cost estimating, procurement coordination, and construction administration activities.
Participate in emergency response support activities and post-disaster facility assessments as required.
Skills The ideal candidate must possess strong expertise in interior design, space planning, and facility layout development to support temporary and permanent facilities used during emergency response and recovery operations. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and related design software is essential for producing accurate floor plans, interior layouts, specifications, and construction documentation. A thorough understanding of ADA accessibility requirements, life-safety standards, building codes, and federal facility design criteria is critical to ensuring safe and compliant interior environments. The candidate should demonstrate strong project coordination and organizational skills to manage multiple design efforts, support procurement activities, and coordinate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and facility stakeholders. Experience with furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) planning, finish selections, and facility renovations is highly desirable. Strong communication and presentation skills are necessary for conveying design concepts, preparing technical documentation, and supporting multidisciplinary collaboration. The ability to adapt to dynamic project requirements and support emergency facility planning and recovery operations is essential for successful performance under the USACE READI contract.
