Athletic Trainer Position Title - Athletic Trainer Position Category - Staff (Exempt) FLSA - Exempt FTE - 0.923 Location - Thousand Oaks University Background - The mission of California Lutheran University is to educate leaders for a global society who are strong in character and judgment, confident in their identity and vocation, and committed to service and justice. Basic Function - Perform athletic training services of health care coverage for 22 men's and women's intercollegiate sports teams and 6 JV teams. California Lutheran University is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and an NCAA Division III institution. Representative Duties - Provide preventative and therapeutic treatments and athletic training coverage as assigned by the Director of Athletics with secondary reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer for athletic teams. Provide care to all student athletes including prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Manage the training room: referring injuries to the appropriate medical facilities. Assist in preparing and maintaining appropriate athletic injury care records and reports as required following all NCAA, HIPPA, and NATA guidelines. Perform performance training for Cal Lutheran athletes during their seasons and non-traditional seasons. Develop strength and conditioning programming for intercollegiate athletes. Monitor pre-existing health conditions of student athletes involved in intercollegiate athletics. Provide medical services during games and practices, home and away, throughout the regular school year and vacation periods when necessary. Responsible for assisting in communicating to student athletes and coaches the Department's health insurance policies. Provide general athletic room services. Perform skills as outlined by the NATA BOC and NATA Educational Council. Work with the team physician to complete pre-season physical examinations and weekly treatments. Supervise student athletic trainers. Supervise certified trainers as needed for coverage of contests and practices. Attend athletic department meetings and other university functions as assigned. Perform other related administrative and committee duties as assigned. Knowledge Of - Excellent organizational, supervisory and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Computer proficiency. Experience in budgetary and supervisory endeavors associated with athletic training. Multiple activity coordination and simultaneous project management. Sports medicine and related field for prevention and treatment of injuries. Body mechanics principles, flexibility and strength training. Basic elements of pedagogy of Sports Medicine. Goals and objectives of assigned activity. Operation and use of Sports Medicine equipment. Health and safety regulations. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Public speaking techniques. Oral and written communication skills. Microsoft Office Suite – including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Ability To - Participate in rigorous physical activities. Prepare and deliver oral presentations. Maintain routine records. Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines. Operate, service and make minor repairs on equipment. Develop and teach strength and conditioning curriculum for intercollegiate athletes. Learn new software and systems as needed for reporting and record keeping of Athletic related injuries. Work business and extended hours, including some evening and weekends Minimum Qualifications - Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field, NATABOC certification and CSCS certification and four years of experience in athletic training at a college or university or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications - Current CPR and first aid certification, certification teach CPR Master's Degree Two or more years working with four year intercollegiate athletes implementing strength and conditioning programming. Class B CA license certification Licenses and other requirements - Valid California driver's license. Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency. Current NATABOC athletic training certificate Physical Abilities - Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate and participate in athletic practices; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching; hearing and speaking to exchange information; carrying, pushing or pulling; lifting heavy objects/individuals required in rehabilitative activities. Environment - Indoor and outdoor work environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; subject to adverse weather conditions; subject to evening, weekend, nights and holiday work hours and varying working hours Hiring Range - $65,000 Required Documents
