Job Overview The IT Network Intern assists IT professionals with maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting an organization’s network infrastructure. Responsibilities include configuring hardware such as computers, network printers, routers and switches, monitoring network performance, and resolving user connectivity issues. This internship provides hands‑on experience in a real‑world IT environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure personal safety and the safety of team members.
Hardware Setup: Assist with the installation and configuration of computers, printers, and network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve computer and printer issues and network connectivity issues, including physical cabling and IP configuration.
Documentation: Create and maintain network maps, wiring diagrams, hardware inventories, and change logs.
Security & Administration: Support network security protocols and assist with basic IP address management.
Qualifications Education and Experience: Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Fundamental knowledge of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, subnets, and basic routing concepts.
Technical skills: Basic knowledge of PCs, printers, and network hardware.
Soft skills: Strong analytical problem‑solving abilities and clear communication to assist team members and end‑users.
Positive attitude and good work ethic.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
Additional skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; speak effectively to customers, management, and colleagues.
Reasoning ability: Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization, interpret written and oral instructions, diagrams, and schedules.
Physical Demands Must lift up to 50 pounds, reach, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must wear protective equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats. Work may involve exposure to outside weather, machine shop conditions, noise, heat, dust, and moving machinery.
Work Environment Environment includes occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and foundry/machine shop conditions, including potentially loud, hot, dusty areas with moving mechanical machinery.
