This full-time, on-site Optoelectronic Component Design Engineer role is based in Camarillo, CA. The engineer will design and develop optoelectronic components and assemblies, creating and reviewing schematics, simulations, and layouts for photodiode, sensor, and LED-based products. Daily responsibilities include collaborating with cross‑functional teams to translate customer requirements into robust designs, performing feasibility studies, and supporting prototype build and validation. The role involves working closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are producible, cost‑effective, and compliant with industry and customer standards. The engineer will also support test plan development, debug performance issues, document design activities, and contribute to continuous improvement of design methodologies and tools. RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management – Customization and Innovation
Leads and supports cross‑functional engineering projects from concept through production, partnering with key stakeholders to define scope, schedule, budget, and manage associated risks. Develops, recommends, and maintains project plans, milestones, and resource allocations. Drives design review process and tracks progress against project timelines. Partners with sales to support customer communications, including design proposals and issue resolution. Mentors engineers and supports continuous improvement initiatives. Manages and supports the fabrication and assembly of prototype jobs. Assists production assembly and testing with issues. Design & Drawings and Technical Requirements
Designs and develops custom semiconductor devices, including LEDs, photodiodes, IR detectors, and optical sub‑assemblies. Creates engineering documentation, including material and assembly drawings, test plans, and datasheets. Develops test fixtures, performs prototype testing, and validates measurement results. Uses AutoCAD to create concept, datasheet, material, component, mask, and assembly drawings. Creates assembly instruction travelers and assembly and test procedures. Collaborates with procurement and quality teams on material specifications. Has strong knowledge of analog electronics and basic understanding of semiconductor physics and wafer fabrication processes. Provides technical leadership for back‑end assembly operations including die attach, wire bonding, soldering, and testing. Qualifies new assembly processes and materials. POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIRMENTS
Required
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related field. 6+ years of experience in optoelectronic components manufacturing or engineering. Experience working and leading through ambiguity and organizational change. Experience with microelectronic packaging and assembly processes. Experience leading New Product Introduction (NPI) from concept through production. Experience working with marketing and sales teams. Customer‑facing technical experience: ability to translate customer requirements into technical specifications and product designs. Experience with product qualification and compliance requirements. In compliance with ITAR, must be a U.S. Person and able to work with export‑controlled information. Preferred
Master’s degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related field. Knowledge of wafer fabrication processes. Experience leading NPI from concept through production. Experience with statistical tools and methodologies (SPC, DOE, JMP, Minitab). Familiarity with relevant semiconductor or photonics standards (JEDEC, MIL‑STD, etc.). Other Requirements and Conditions
Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Employee is frequently required to talk, hear, sit, reach outward, twist/turn, handle/manipulate objects, stand, grasp, bend, squat, crawl, climb, and type. Must carry up to 10 pounds frequently and up 25 pounds occasionally; push and pull up to 25 pounds occasionally and up 10 pounds frequently. Working Conditions: 30% in a clean room environment with exposure to loud noises and chemicals. 70% in a typical office environment. Compensation Information
The base salary range for this position is $120,000–$140,000 per year. Compensation may vary based on experience and qualifications.
