As a VDC Technician, you will be a critical part in the design and construction process of our projects. Working closely with senior detailers, engineers, and field superintendents, you will help create the precise 3D models and 2D shop drawings that our fabrication and erection teams rely on. This role is an excellent opportunity for professionals at any stage looking to build a long-term career specifically focusing on the unique engineering and detailing challenges of the bridge construction industry.
VDC Technician Required Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Drafting/Design, or a related field. (Recent graduates are highly encouraged to apply!)
Ability to calculate quantities
Ability to generate 3D models
Proficiency in drafting and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, Civil 3D, or Tekla Structures).
A fundamental understanding of reading and interpreting structural blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
Familiar with structural steel shapes, connections, and basic fabrication processes is a major plus.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
VDC Technician Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in generating accurate 3D structural steel models using appropriate software
Draft and detail 2D shop drawings, erection plans, and assembly drawings in accordance with industry standards.
Extract bill of material from 3D models and 2D shop drawings.
Participate in clash detection and coordination process to identify and resolve structural conflicts before they reach the fabrication shop or job site.
Review structural and technical contract documents and update models/drawings to reflect design changes.
Collaborate with field crews to ensure details are constructible and support resolving any issues that arise during installation.
