Tasks and Responsibilities
Drive vehicle to client facilities, typically nursing homes, as directed by the dispatcher.
Unload the phlebotomy tray and take it to the patient’s bedside to collect physician‑ordered samples.
Accurately identify the patient before collecting specimens.
Collect, label, process, and deliver specimens obtained from patients.
Reload equipment and all necessary specimens to the vehicle for prompt delivery.
Regularly communicate with the dispatcher to report status and location.
Strictly adhere to Universal Precautions to control blood‑borne pathogens and infectious disease exposures.
Maintain required certifications, health requirements, and operational requirements.
Keep the work area clean.
Follow all required safety precautions at all times.
Report any unsafe conditions in the workplace.
Report all complaints and problems encountered.
Monitor supplies inventory, reporting low stock or out‑of‑stock situations.
Identify and segregate any expired supplies.
Arrive promptly, remain properly groomed, and wear the proper identification when visiting a facility.
Accurately maintain time records of hours worked and deliver to the company as directed.
Manage the assigned shift to include meal breaks.
Follow all specimen preservation, patient preparation, and specimen management processes and procedures as written without personal deviation.
Use only approved and current documents.
Make changes to records only per approved instructions as needed.
Be available for on‑call evenings and weekends; irregular unscheduled overtime may be required based on workload or absenteeism.
Required Skills
Excellent communication and interaction skills with pediatric and geriatric populations.
Treat customers and patients with respect, dignity, and discretion, acknowledging residents’ rights and patients’ right to refuse.
Demonstrate reliable attendance.
Current, valid state phlebotomy license (if required).
Current, valid state driver's license; car insurance; good driving record; and a vehicle in good working condition suitable for daily driving requirements.
Proficient in venipuncture and skin puncture using both vacutainer and syringe techniques.
Knowledge of laboratory operations.
Maintain sterile, sanitary conditions to prevent contamination.
Physical Demands The employee frequently walks, stands, handles or feels, talks, and hears. Occasionally the employee sits, reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment The standard medical laboratory environment presents potential health hazards. Associates work in all weather and driving conditions and are expected to safely operate in accordance with applicable health and safety policies, including consistent and proper use of personal protective equipment.
