Job Summary We are Optimum, a leader in connectivity, seeking driven professionals to join our team. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining a complex service provider IP/MPLS network in a carrier‑grade environment.
Responsibilities include planning, designing, engineering networks, evaluating and validating new equipment, documenting procedures, diagnosing and troubleshooting network issues, providing engineering guidance, and supporting deployment of new services.
Responsibilities
Perform engineering activities with knowledge of IP routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS‑TE, and QoS capabilities.
Manage IP backbone capacity and traffic engineering (TE).
Work with core IP routing technologies and vendors, specifically Cisco and Nokia.
Plan IPv4 and IPv6 subnetting for large‑scale ISP networks.
Develop and execute detailed network designs, specifications, and architectural plans for IP Backbone architectures supporting ISP and commercial service delivery infrastructure.
Create test plans; test and validate functionality, management, and performance for existing and new technologies supporting metro, regional, and backbone IP networks.
Design and test IP service integration, including internet, VPN, VoIP, and video delivery services over IP/MPLS networks.
Determine, test, and validate code functionality for IP routers and Ethernet switches across multiple vendors.
Conduct equipment evaluations, pilot testing, and network designs to ensure reliability and scalable expansion.
Support deployments of new IP services, systems, and architectures with strict adherence to SLAs and change management policies.
Partner with change management for impact identification, validation, MOP creation, and execution in live production ISP network.
Define and compile methods, procedures, and documentation to support personnel in installation, maintenance, and removal of network equipment.
Coordinate with regions to ensure network availability exceeds market demand and customer growth requirements.
Apply best practices for router security design, including authentication, access lists, and control plane protection.
Act as an escalation from NOC for critical network incidents and customer‑impacting outages.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or equivalent.
CCNP required or equivalent experience; CCIE plus.
Experience in a Service Provider / ISP environment supporting commercial or enterprise services.
Experience with routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, ISIS).
Experience with MPLS‑TE, L2VPN, L3VPN, and traffic engineering concepts.
Experience with IPv4 and IPv6.
Experience writing engineering guidelines and procedures.
Familiarity with fiber optic technology and transport networks.
Knowledge of scripting languages such as BASH, Python, etc. (recommended).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a 24x7 operational environment with on‑call rotation.
Proven ability to troubleshoot large‑scale outages under pressure and meet SLA commitments.
