The Mechanical Design Engineering team seeks a developing mechanical engineer to join our Fire & Overheat Linear Detection group. The role involves designing, modifying, integrating, and supporting aircraft fire and overheat detection systems and components for military and commercial applications. The position is onsite in Wilson, NC. Responsibilities
Work independently and with senior engineers to generate new designs, review change requests, create redline revisions, and support testing and documentation of mechanical hardware and assemblies. Interpret and implement hardware engineering requirements into design for medium‑complexity components. Contribute to the full system life cycle: proposal, development, qualification, certification, and aftermarket support. Coordinate with other engineering and operations disciplines to ensure design and testing appropriateness and manufacturability. Recommend disposition of operations/supplier test or part deviation requests. Participate in new design and revision reviews to produce high‑quality drawings and documents. Use appropriate processes and tools during hardware development. Participate in new technology development for fire and overheat detectors. Integrate and provide support for customer reviews and meetings. Travel as necessary (~5%). Qualifications
Familiarity with technical design documentation such as mechanical assemblies, fabrication drawings, parts lists, weldments, installation drawings, and GD&T. Knowledge of metal fabrication techniques, including finishing, machined parts, and welding. Adaptability and organization to support multiple projects simultaneously. Experience creating engineering reports. Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 2 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree; qualified individuals without a degree but with equivalent experience may be considered. Effective communication in various settings (in‑person, virtual, email, direct messaging). Ability to switch between high‑level concepts and low‑level details. Self‑motivated, receptive, organized, and able to complete assignments on time. Habit of verifying work for accuracy and completeness before submission. Experience in aircraft component design, test, or certification. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications / Office 365. Benefits
