Position Overview Mobile Diesel Technician
– Permanent Full‑Time – Fenton, MO
Torque by Ryder is hiring an Experienced Mobile Diesel Technician to support our truck fleet.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Pay: $38.00/hour (based on experience)
Retention Bonus: $2,000 paid quarterly within the first year

Responsibilities
Make independent decisions related to vehicle diagnostics and repair
Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including preventive maintenance, complex repairs, and use of diagnostic equipment
Remote triage and support with RCRC and customer breakdowns
Facility maintenance duties
Interact with drivers and customers to determine complaint details and coordinate schedules
Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance and diagnostic procedures
Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and vehicle repairs per agency standards, including A/C & heater, brakes‑air, brakes‑hydraulic, cargo handling, charging systems, clutch, cooling systems, lighting, drive axles, driveline, engines, fuel systems, and many more (see detailed bullet list below)
A/C & Heater : Operate system, check condenser, belt tension, Freon and oil leaks
Brakes‑Air : Inspect air brake components, perform simple tests, adjust brakes and measure lining thickness
Brakes‑Hydraulic : Road test, inspect for leaks, adjust service brakes, perform repairs
Cargo Handling : Identify leaks, operate liftgate, adjust systems
Charging Systems : Inspect batteries, check belts, test alternator, perform basic checks
Clutch : Lubricate components, verify operation
Cooling Systems : Check coolant levels, inspect for leaks, replace hoses, use pressure tester
Cranking System : Inspect and test batteries and starter
Lighting System : Repair wiring, replace bulbs and assemblies
Drive Axles : Inspect housings, change oil and filter
Driveline : Lubricate, inspect for wear
Engines (Gas & Diesel) : Check oil levels, listen for noises, inspect for leaks
Fuel Systems : Replace filters, check lines for integrity
Preventive Maintenance : Execute PMs (PM298, PM230) and related tasks per OEM schedules
Steering & Alignment : Check fluid levels, adjust steering components
Suspension, Chassis & Cab : Identify normal operation, repair minor leaks, assess wear
Tire & Wheel : Perform air pressure checks, tread depth, P.M. checks, replace assemblies
Vehicle Coupling : Lubricate fifth wheel mechanism, operate slider
Use shop management system and electronic documentation for work orders and compliance
Ensure accurate maintenance, safety, and environmental records per corporate and regulatory requirements
Accountable for key maintenance measurements established by company policy
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Vocational or technical certification; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
Basic tool set required; must possess all tools necessary for duties per Ryder's Maintenance policy 2.02
Four (4) or more years relevant work experience, preferred
Non‑Commercial Driver’s License (CLASS E) preferred
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) CLASS A preferred
Other state driver’s license as required
Ability to take home assigned mobile service truck when applicable and secure vehicle and contents
Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles
Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance, diagnostics, AC, electrical systems, major engine repairs, and fuel injection repairs
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Customer‑service skills and account‑management experience
Self‑starter, self‑sufficient, organized, and able to multi‑task with excellent time‑management
Entrepreneurial spirit and preventive‑maintenance mindset (PM230 & PM298 certification within 90 days)
Completed relevant FMCS, BH220, AC, HD electrical, and OEM diagnostic software courses as required
Pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background & motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years)
Additional Requirements
Must meet all appraisal and training certifications outlined in the job description (e.g., FMCS 396.25, BA220&BA298, BH220&BH298, TW220, CF609, AC220&AC298, DR208, SBTIII, OEM diagnostic software)
