Under the direction of the Director of Data Center Service (DCS), this position will be a part of the DCS Unix team. The candidate must be able to multi‑task and work under pressure to yield high quality results in a short time frame.
Specific Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
Assign work to subordinate supervisors. Monitor project progress, review major staff initiatives, and make recommendations as appropriate.
Develop and provide progress reports for IT management that describe project status including technical, fiscal, and staffing issues associated with project completion.
Keep abreast of new technologies and innovations in the IT arena for use in planning and staff development activities.
Update project portfolio on a regular basis to report project status to senior staff.
Assess technology for gap analysis purposes and identify opportunities to better leverage system features and capabilities of Enterprise UNIX (AIX and Solaris) environment.
Perform team skill assessment, gap analysis, and execute positive change through appropriate leadership and mentorship.
Schedule and direct meetings of project team(s) including agency management, users and other ITS staff to discuss specific Enterprise UNIX (AIX and Solaris) environment and systems analysis projects.
Define scope, objectives and prioritization of short‑term and long‑range projects for Data Center Services. Confirm that project schedules are up to date and complete.
Facilitate meetings attended by IT staff, project team(s), agency management, users and/or vendors to discuss specific projects.
Participate in the development of procedures, standards and internal controls for the conduct of work within Data Center Services.
Participate in the development, interpretation, review and communication of IT policies, procedures and standards.
Coordinate with the Chief Information Security Office to ensure compliance with security policies. Monitor compliance and take appropriate action as needed.
Serve as liaison with vendors. Create Statement of Work, RFQ and RFP as needed. Monitor vendor compliance with contracts for services. Resolve problems as needed.
Manage and automate system reporting and proactive alerting for Data Center Services. Assist team with optimizing system health monitoring, maintenance and reporting.
Direct staff's involvement in the development and maintenance of technical documentation and knowledge based articles regarding system configurations, operating procedures, and service records for Exadata and/or PCA (Unix) hardware (ex. Visio drawings, Excel spreadsheet, Word documents, etc).
Ensure staff follow defined ITIL processes for change control, incident response, and problem resolution.
Assist management with budgeting, purchasing, strategic planning and human resource related responsibilities.
As needed, assist IT management with overall management of division activities.
Perform the full range of supervisory duties including completing Annual & Semi‑Annual performance evaluations and probation reports for subordinates.
Assist with creation, organization, collection, reporting, and management of DCS annual spending and capital plans, budgets, procurements, and maintenance agreements.
Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Manager Information Technology Services 2, SG‑29, OR in a position at the SG‑27 level or higher deemed administrative under Section52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades or one M‑grade.
Additional Comments
Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining NewYorkState residency within six months of hiring.
Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. It is the policy of ITS not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non‑immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas or for permanent residence.
Fingerprinting and a background check is required for employment with ITS.
Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. Details of position(s) will be described further if you are selected for an interview.
If eligible, positions located in NewYorkCity will receive an additional $4,000 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid‑Hudson will receive an additional $2,000 adjustment location pay.
