This AVP-level role is a critical leadership position within our annuities business, requiring a candidate with a strong foundation in banking, hedge funds, or asset management. We are looking for a strategic thinker with a business-first mindset who can operate as a trusted partner in running and evolving the annuities function. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking, the ability to synthesize complex information, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to driving the business forward.
This role requires deep annuity expertise, strong actuarial judgment, and proven leadership capabilities. The individual will lead a team of actuarial analysts, oversee core analytics and reporting processes, and partner closely with finance and business leaders on projections and earnings. The role is designed for a career ASA or FSA who can quickly step into a high-impact leadership position and help advance analytical maturity across the organization.
This position is available onsite at our Houston, TX location.
What You’ll Do: Provide on‑demand actuarial and financial analysis to support ad hoc requests that span across the actuarial organization.
Rapidly ramp up on unfamiliar problem sets and deliver high‑quality outputs with minimal direction.
Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses.
Provides leadership, prioritizing the most impactful actions focused on meeting our financial targets.
Collaborates with leadership by effectively interacting, being open to opinions and feedback, and challenging and debating when necessary.
Develops comprehensive methodologies that balance growth, retention, and profitability.
Prepares and presents summaries and recommendations of actuarial analyses for distribution to senior management, other American National departments, reinsurers, and regulators.
Effectively communicates the results of actuarial analyses to all levels of the organization and to interested outside parties.
Completes processes and improves methods for performing and documenting actuarial analyses promptly and accurately.
Supports and trains less experienced analysts with actuarial techniques, spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses.
Support projects across:
VM‑22 / Regulatory initiatives
M&A due diligence and integration support
Translate business questions into structured actuarial analyses and clearly communicate findings to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
What You’ll Need: Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or related field.
10-12 years of related experience.
Experience leading and managing a team.
Strong technical actuarial background with hands‑on experience in modeling, analytics, or financial analysis.
Demonstrated ability to work across multiple actuarial disciplines (e.g., pricing, valuation, ALM, reporting).
Advanced proficiency in data analysis techniques, including some experience coding in Python or R.
