The Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering organization is a multi‑disciplinary technology team established to rapidly address the needs of targeted government and international customers. ALG Engineering leads the development and delivery of scalable solutions for custom space and terrestrial applications and collaborates closely with Amazon Leo to leverage the constellation of advanced satellites to provide seamless and efficient communication capabilities.
The System Engineer will engage with an experienced cross‑disciplinary team to design, integrate, and test innovative product solutions. The role requires close collaboration with colleagues across the Amazon Leo inter‑disciplinary team and with key partners and suppliers to ensure systems exceed customer expectations. The System Engineer must be responsive, flexible, innovative, and able to thrive within a collaborative, fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Key job responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of space segment systems engineering, including preliminary concept development, trade studies, CONOPS definition, requirements decomposition and allocation, interface requirements definition, verification and validation, support to integration and test operations, anomaly resolution, risk management, and schedule execution.
Collaborate with technical program management and product management leadership to ensure successful program execution.
Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop, and verify space segment products.
Deep‑dives into satellite subsystem functions and interfaces and develop integrated satellite system designs and solutions.
Coordinate and communicate with subsystem cross‑functional engineering teams to ensure system execution.
Participate in software‑to‑hardware integration and test activities to ensure mission functionality pre‑ and post‑launch operations.
Perform technical data analysis, verify, and maintain systems configurations in accordance with defined constraints and operational requirements.
Perform various analyses to optimize the satellite system and/or system architecture.
Resolve cross‑functional technical issues using facts and data to determine the optimal technical approach.
Develop and improve systems engineering processes and rigor.
Security Clearance: This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance.
About the team Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering is a multidisciplinary technology team that rapidly addresses the needs of targeted customers with scalable solutions. These solutions are tailored to meet the needs of government and international customers for both space‑based and terrestrial applications. The Systems Engineering, Integration, Test, and Manufacturing organization under ALG Engineering plays a vital role in the entire life cycle of engineering solutions, including architecture development, requirements and interface definition, assembly, integration, and test (AI&T), verification, and post‑delivery and operational support.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience in systems engineering principles and techniques, including power, mass, and other technical performance budgets; requirements analysis and flow‑down; design verification and validation processes; configuration management; satellite level integration and test processes.
4+ years of RF system engineering, communications systems, RF design, or a related field, with hands‑on experience in ground segment design and integration.
4+ years of experience with the derivation and maintenance of requirements from a system level down to lower levels.
4+ years of experience developing system level budgets (power, dV, pointing, link, etc.) and tracking the budget throughout the development lifecycle.
Hands‑on experience with ground and user terminal integration, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, or mission operations.
4+ years of experience with standard electronic lab test equipment (network analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, multimeters, etc.).
Experience completing complex tasks quickly with little to no guidance and reacting with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround, or experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines.
Experience in verbal and written communication for executive level leaders.
Experience in working directly with government officials and regulatory bodies.
Computational problem solving and test automation/optimization in one or more of: Python, Matlab, LabVIEW, C/C++, Docker, Rust on a Linux platform.
Experience working in cloud infrastructures (AWS) with strong working knowledge of IPv4/IPv6 subnetting and L1‑L6 networking.
Experience in verification plan and test plan development related to established test standards (MIL‑STD‑810, DO‑160).
Familiarity with satellite communications, ground terminals, or DoD networks.
Experience with satellite or terrestrial communications systems and antenna theory.
Experience with communications theory and RF systems: OFDM, MIMO, polarization, spread spectrum, matching, S‑parameters, losses, coherence, etc.
Working knowledge of RF front‑end components, modem systems, GNSS, and link‑level performance.
Experience with RF and/or network measurement equipment, including but not limited to spectrum/signal/network generators/analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
Proficiency with software development and hardware integration related to satellite payloads or ground systems.
Experience in space and/or ground systems development efforts including meeting cost, schedule, and performance goals.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
