We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to own and execute the mechanical design of automated fulfillment center projects, spanning from concept through installation. The role involves independent work, cross‑functional collaboration, oversight of junior engineers, and ensuring design solutions meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards.
Responsibilities
Own and develop subsystem layouts for automated material handling systems with minimal oversight.
Select and specify conveyor types, third‑party equipment, and systems to meet project requirements.
Coordinate with electrical, controls, and structural engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
Deliver complete 3D models and manage clash detection for entire project areas.
Execute and manage mechanical engineering deliverables, schedules, and quality standards.
Coordinate with construction teams to resolve layout conflicts and ensure efficient installation.
Lead communication with on‑site construction teams and make decisions to address field issues.
Produce complete installation packages ready for construction use.
Monitor progress of engineers on the subsystem team and ensure deliverables meet timelines.
Enter and peer‑review orders for mechanical equipment, ensuring accurate and timely releases to manufacturing.
Perform and validate system and component calculations independently (throughput, motor power, belt pull, structural loads).
Engineer solutions for custom parts and non‑standard applications.
Mentor and guide engineers on technical approaches, design standards, and problem‑solving methods.
Review and approve work of junior engineers, providing constructive feedback and technical direction.
Assign appropriate project tasks to team members based on skill level and development needs.
Teach best practices and help junior engineers build technical capabilities.
Ensure mechanical designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards.
Review engineering calculations, designs, and equipment orders for accuracy and completeness before submission.
Identify and resolve design issues proactively during all project phases.
Drive improvements based on lessons learned and apply them to current work.
Travel to sites to conduct surveys, audits, and resolve field issues.
Lead installation support and commissioning activities for projects.
Develop engineers through hands‑on mentorship and feedback.
Qualifications
Experience in design, R&D, manufacturing, process, or industrial engineering.
Experience working with material handling equipment (MHE).
Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, etc.).
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Strong communication skills for leadership, stakeholders, and cross‑functional teams.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; 2+ years of experience at Amazon preferred.
Excellent time‑management and prioritization skills in time‑sensitive situations.
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of system architecture, optimization, dynamics, analysis, reliability, and decision‑making concepts.
Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and high‑speed manufacturing.
Experience with design‑in‑safety.
Experience with process design based on Lean principles.
Familiarity with industry safety and egress standards such as IBC and ANSI B11.19.
Benefits
Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
Maternity and parental leave options.
Paid time off (PTO).
401(k) plan with matching.
Comprehensive health insurance, life, disability, and supplemental plans.
Employee Assistance Program and mental health support.
Flexible spending accounts and other wellness benefits.
Base salary range: $99,300–$160,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
