Responsibilities Load and unload freight onto and off of equipment, assist in recouping damage. Prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers prior to loading freight. Use safe lifting techniques to properly load and unload freight. Select and use appropriate freight handling equipment. Weigh and dimension shipments ensuring proper classification, rating, and safe handling. Plan cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight. Count and inspect freight condition, documenting shortages or damage. Review freight bills for special instructions. Check manifests for exceptions and verify destination codes against freight bills. Check weight distributions on headloads and verify against freight bills. Verify hazardous material product description, correct paperwork discrepancies and proper placarding. Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred. Ability to pass background check and alcohol/drug test. Preferred prior experience as Forklift Operator, Dock or Warehouse Worker, or Material Handler. Preferred prior Forklift certification.
