339 Ltd is a UK technology company building a new subscription-management and recurring-payments platform for a community of independently-owned businesses. We handle recurring payments, plan administration, and fulfilment, so our customers can run modern subscription models without surrendering margin, brand, or the customer relationship to a corporate intermediary.
We exist because the sector our customers operate in is undergoing continued consolidation, and independent business owners are the targets for corporate acquirers. We believe there is a place and an opportunity for independent business owners, and we will fight to support them.
Mission-critical infrastructure should never be owned by corporate acquirers, because in the long run, the corporates’ interests can only align with what’s best for the corporates themselves, not the independent businesses that rely on their systems. For that reason, we made different choices: funded from within the community we serve, with Articles of Association written so that we can’t be sold to a corporate acquirer, and once profitable, we share surplus profits between investors, customers, and the team. We’re building for the long term, a legacy business that will still be here in 10, 20, 30 years, not for a quick exit.
If you want to do excellent work alongside a small team that takes its values seriously (Be Proactive, Be Trustworthy, Be Fair, Be Transparent, Be Equitable, Be Generous), in a culture of flexible working, fair pay, and genuine autonomy, we’d love to hear from you.
*The role*
You’ll be the second developer on a small, fast-moving team building a recurring-payments product from the ground up. The workflow is: tickets in, code out, with senior mentoring and modern AI tooling doing the heavy lifting so you can focus on the judgment elements.
We need someone who can settle in fast and start shipping inside the first month. There’s no scope to carry anyone, and equally no junior tier to hide behind. If you’re a strong mid-level developer who wants to grow under senior oversight, this is the role. If you’re looking to set architectural direction in year one, it isn’t.
*What you’ll deliver*
* Ship tickets reliably: You’re turning Jira tickets into shipped code on a predictable cadence.
* Direct AI tooling well: You use Claude Code as a productivity multiplier, not a crutch. The diffs you submit for review are clean and you can defend every line.
* Protect the payments path: Zero high-severity production incidents in the recurring-payments path caused by code you shipped.
* Get through review without drama: Review cycles shorten over time. The patterns of the codebase become second nature.
* Grow visibly: The mistakes you’re making in month 6 are different from the ones in month 1: harder, more interesting, further from the basics.
* Stay honest about what you don’t know: You flag uncertainty before code ships, not after.
*What you’ll bring*
*Technical:*
* Solid working knowledge of TypeScript and React 18 (SPA, hooks, component composition).
* Familiar with Node or Deno serverless edge functions.
* Real PostgreSQL: schema design, RPCs, migrations, row-level security as a working tool.
* REST and third-party API integration.
* Testing as a first-class discipline (unit and integration, high coverage).
* Git workflow, PR review.
* AI-first development: Already fluent with coding agents (Claude Code, Copilot, or equivalent) as part of your daily workflow. You know when to lean on them, when to override them, and how to keep the diff clean.
*Cultural (scored against our six values during interview):*
* Honesty about what’s broken, late, or beyond your skill.
* Writing things down so the rest of the team can see them.
* Caring about the customer outcome, not just the ticket.
* Pushing back on a spec when the feature won’t actually help.
*How we work*
* Fully remote, UK-based. Asynchronous by default, with regular live time for the things that need it.
* Flexible working. We care about output, not hours at a desk.
* Fair pay, published bands and progression criteria. You’ll know what you’re worth, what the band above pays, and what you’d need to do to reach it. The founder’s salary is set at the average of the rest of the team’s.
* 25 days holiday plus bank holidays. 3% employer contribution to your workplace pension.
* Profit-share bonus once we’re profitable. Likely a couple of years out. It’s part of how the company is set up, not a discretionary perk: once profitable, surplus profits are shared between investors, customers, and the team.
* Time ring-fenced for thinking and improvement, not just feature delivery.
