The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related systems. This role manages projects from preconstruction through completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The Project Manager works closely with field teams, engineers, subcontractors, and clients while supporting delivery methods such as design-build, design-assist, and plan/spec projects. This position plays a key role in coordinating complex mechanical scopes across a wide range of industries including commercial, healthcare, institutional, and industrial construction.
Key Responsibilities- Manage mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Oversee project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate all aspects of mechanical scopes including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and process systems.
- Lead subcontractor procurement, scope development, and contract administration.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring milestones and deadlines are achieved.
- Collaborate with engineering, detailing, and BIM teams to ensure constructability and coordination.
- Support design-build and design-assist efforts, providing input on system design, cost, and constructability.
- Work closely with field superintendents to monitor progress, productivity, and jobsite issues.
- Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project logs.
- Identify risks and implement solutions to maintain project performance and schedule.
- Lead project meetings with clients, architects, engineers, and internal teams.
- Oversee project closeout including punch lists, commissioning, and final documentation.
- 510+ years of experience working as a Project Manager in mechanical construction.
- Experience managing projects involving HVAC systems, piping, plumbing, or process systems.
- Background working for a mechanical contractor or general contractor with strong MEP experience.
- Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and mechanical systems.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and subcontractors.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working on complex or large-scale projects such as healthcare facilities, high-rises, industrial plants, or institutional buildings.
- Familiarity with BIM/VDC coordination and prefabrication strategies to improve project efficiency and reduce installation time.
- Experience with Lean construction practices and value engineering.
- Proficiency with project management tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or Primavera.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
