Job Title: Scan Room Operator (Part-Time)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina 
Pay Rate: $16.50/hour

Schedule:

  • Monday: 6:30 AM start
  • Tuesday – Friday: 7:30 AM start

Position Summary:

The Scan Room Operator is responsible for the organization and image capture of child support payment transactions received via the United States Postal Service (USPS) and FedEx. This role operates advanced imaging technology (OPEX scanning equipment) to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient processing of documents for the South Carolina State Disbursement Unit.

Scope

All work is performed in alignment with the Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Statement of Work (SOW) for the South Carolina Department of Child Support Services.

This is an intermediate-level position requiring:

  • Some prior work experience
  • Application of developed skills gained through training
  • Ability to identify and resolve straightforward issues
  • Capability to work within established procedures with moderate supervision

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform batching procedures and feed documents into OPEX scanning equipment
  • Operate scanning equipment efficiently while meeting productivity and quality standards
  • Complete all daily tasks using scan room hardware and software
  • Report system or equipment issues and maintain troubleshooting logs
  • Monitor check encoding to ensure compliance with MICR specifications and take corrective action as needed
  • Perform preventative maintenance on scan room equipment
  • Report maintenance needs to leadership
  • Monitor scan room software, identify errors, and take corrective action
  • Rebuild and reprocess rejected transactions
  • Support other departments as needed
  • Maintain professional standards, including attendance, behavior, and dress code
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Scan Room Supervisor

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous mailroom experience
  • Experience working with scanning or imaging equipment (OPEX or similar preferred)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment
  • Basic technical aptitude with hardware and software systems
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to follow established procedures
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality required

Work Environment

  • High-volume production and document processing setting
  • Requires consistent focus, accuracy, and adherence to established workflows

Pay Transparency Laws in some locations require disclosure of compensation and/or benefits-related information. For this position, actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. In addition to base pay, this position, based on business need, may be eligible for a bonus or incentive. The estimated hourly rate for this role is $16.50
