Safety Coordinator The purpose of the Safety Coordinator is to provide support to the Lamb Weston Environmental, Health and Safety organization within the Lamb Weston facility. This is an introductory safety role and designed to engage proactively with all team members across the organization. Job Description
Recognize and participate in the oversight of established facility safety operating procedures, facility safety instructions, and regulatory safety standards. Assist in incident investigations and may prepare incident reports required by regulatory agencies. Plans and/or delivers programs to train employees in adopting work practices that work toward zero injuries. Establish, develop, and maintain teamwork and collaboration with all organizational-level team members across varied backgrounds and technical abilities to assure safety/health programs and procedures are being practiced, supported, and reinforced against accepted procedures, instructions, standards, and company policies. Conduct inspections of the organization's facilities/equipment to detect existing or potential accident hazards and determine corrective measures. Participate in and lead hazard identification and assessment activities. Train, coach, and assess hazard prevention & control methods and tools. Participate and lead internal Key Concepts self-assessment program. Participate in internal EHS regulatory audits. Facilitate Safety Committee meetings and ensure information is disseminated across all Shifts and to the management team. Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to assure compliance with safety standards and government regulations. Conduct EHS health checks to evaluate the performance of various EHS tools. Utilize the behavior-based safety approach to observe, analyze, and modify the behaviors of employees to prevent incidents and improve overall safety performance. Assists management in the development of energy control procedures as well as the periodic inspection of the energy control procedures. Attends the daily pre-shift meetings and is an active voice during meetings, representing the EHS pillar. Maintains and calibrates industrial hygiene equipment. Assists Team Leaders and Management in the identification of heat stress by participating in walk downs, heat stress monitoring, hazard analysis, Heat Stress equipment training, and being a resource to answer Heat Stress related questions. Assists management with Emergency Preparedness drills. Assists management in Safety Log management. Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials. Effectively collaborate, recruit, and build working relationships with other team members at all levels to improve the value of the plant Health and Safety programs. Actively participate in Company Safety and Good Manufacturing Practice Programs.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications Education/ Certifications: (Required & Preferred)
High school diploma or GED OSHA 10 Hour Certification, Preferred. Must be completed within 90 days of starting the role. Successfully pass the 24-hour Hazardous Materials Technician course and stay current on the certification through completing annual training. Assist Incident Commander, as necessary, during emergency response operations and training. Successfully pass confined space entrant and attendant training, confined space entry supervisor training, and confined space Train the Trainer to support the Continuous Skills Department, as needed. Obtain Confined Space Rescue Team Leader certification through company purchased, 3rd party training. Assist in effectively leading industrial rescue teams. Obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification provided through onsite training. Complete necessary training to become one of the site's Fall Protection: Competent Person. As a competent person, train authorized users to meet the regulatory training requirements for fall protection. Valid Driver's License and driving record that meets Lamb Weston Driving Standards
Skills and Experience:
Must be able to communicate, comprehend, and follow instructions in English (both written and oral). 1-2 years' experience in a food-processing environment is highly preferred. Demonstrated experience of leading teams. Demonstrated understanding of culture and behavior safety. Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and SharePoint. Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
Physical Environment/Demands:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature. Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures. Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment. Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to manufacturing environments: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, humidity, oils, smells and allergens. Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation. May have to sample food while evaluating Lamb Weston products. Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily.
