Responsibilities
Engineers and operates network solutions supporting mainframe TCP/IP and SNA/APPN-based system integrations.
Optimizes high-availability connectivity for business-critical, high-velocity transactions and batch-processing systems.
Leads modernization of mainframe network architectures, including improvements in observability and telemetry.
Advances automation and AI-assisted operations to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and enhance network reliability.
Diagnoses and resolves complex issues across routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, and mainframe network stacks.
Continuously improves network solutions to meet performance, capacity, resiliency, and cybersecurity compliance standards.
Confirms that application and business requirements have been translated into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks to guide development and integration of technology solutions.
Contributes to the creation/selection of functional and non-functional product evaluation requirements within and across domains.
Reviews and may develop software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes.
Reviews and guides the evaluation of reference models, blueprints, playbooks and the execution of on-site evaluations of third‑party products being considered for firm adoption.
Mentors and assists Infrastructure resources on infrastructure service along with application integration validation methods and tools to ensure that technology solutions comply with enterprise system design and engineering standards.
Promotes an inclusive and healthy working environment and helps to resolve organizational impediments/blockers.
Position Summary
Responsible for components of complex engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities.
Serves as a seasoned/proficient technical resource; provides technical knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor. Will not have direct reports but will influence and direct activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations.
Responsibilities include providing problem determination and resolution for z/OS and z/VM network connectivity, encryption and transmission issues.
Work as a team member with other technical staff, and teams to ensure high available, secure connectivity solutions and compatibility between systems.
Write and maintain system documentation.
Responsible for matching current technology with the needs of the company.
Required Qualifications
5-7 years experience with Mainframe, z/OS and z/VM engineering.
Experience supporting enterprise‑scale networks with high availability and reliability requirements.
Strong foundational expertise in TCP/IP networking, including OSPF and Layer 2 technologies such as VLANs and EtherChannel/Portchannel.
Strong understanding of packet trace analysis and multi‑layer troubleshooting techniques.
Working knowledge of switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, certificates, TLS/SSL, and REST APIs.
Development and coding skills that support infrastructure automation, process automation, and AI‑driven tooling.
Curiosity, a continuous‑learning mindset, and strong communication and collaboration skills.
