Responsibilities
Implement and maintain smooth operation and physical design of databases.
Conduct performance tuning of indexes and databases.
Review database design and integration of systems, provide backup recovery, and recommend enhancements or improvements.
Maintain security and integrity controls.
Formulate policies, procedures, and standards related to database management and monitor transaction activity and utilization.
Develop stored procedures and/or triggers as needed.
Administer a variety of database systems, such as Microsoft SQL Server and other DBMS.
Enforce database administration and user standards and procedures; audit, modify, and amend data in systems using SQL commands.
Oversee scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log backups, notifications, and database replication between multiple SQL Servers and remote sites.
Assist Database Designers/Information System Analysts in developing and creating SQL and web‑based databases and database systems.
Review technical designs, reports, documentation, and other materials produced by staff; create and maintain high‑level reporting systems using products such as Crystal Reports; research and implement new database and online technology.
Required Qualifications
Active TS/SCI + CI Poly clearance
BS with 5‑7 years of relevant experience; MS with 3‑5 years; PhD with 0‑3 years
One or more of the following DoD 8570/8140 certifications:
CompTIA Security+
CompTIA CySA+
CompTIA CASP+
CISSP
Desired Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300)
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
AWS Certified Database – Specialty
Microsoft SQL Server High Availability Certification
AWS Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
Certified Authorization Professional (CAP)
RMF (NIST 800‑37 / 800‑53) formal training
ITIL® 4 Foundation (Minimum)
ITIL Managing Professional (Preferred)
COBIT 2019 Foundation
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Location: Reston, VA
Type of environment: Varies
Noise level: Low
Work schedule: Normal work hours average 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week (excluding breaks and meal periods) within standard operational hours 0600‑1800, Monday‑Friday, excluding Federal holidays. Employees may be requested to work evenings and weekends to meet program and contract needs.
Amount of Travel: 20%
Physical Demands Regularly required to use hands to grip, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds; frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
