Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test Currently trained by the State of Michigan to conduct Hearing and Vision screenings Preferred Education and Experience
Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health or related field A minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training which provides required knowledge and ability to function as a Hearing and Vision Technician Required Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license, operable automobile, and insurance COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES Knowledge of:
Modern office procedures and methods Hearing and Vision procedures Hearing and Vision terminology Proper use of hearing and vision screening equipment as mandated by the State of Michigan Skill in:
Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with staff and the public Providing customer service to internal and external customers via phone, email and in person Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Personal computer capabilities, operations and applications related to Desktop Operating Systems, electronic health records (EHR), and MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Mentoring, directing, and organizing the work of newly trained technicians Demonstrated decision-making ability and problem-solving skills Organizational ability and initiative Ability to:
Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation Act as a liaison and/or resource person between the Hearing and Vision Program and schools in Macomb County Work independently and meet deadlines with limited supervision. Effectively speak, write, and understand the English language Effectively speak, write and understand a language other than English is preferred Understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Work in an environment which embraces the county's Dignity Campaign
