Phlebotomist Opportunity

This is a contract job to hire opportunity. Position: Phlebotomist. Location: Itasca IL and suburbs (float job). Schedule: 7AM-8PM M-F (need to be available, but will work an 8-hour shift). Goal is rotating Saturdays but they could be working multiple weekends in a row. They may have to work a Sunday shift as well (7AM-7PM is when they could be requested to work). Projected duration: 3 months + contract to hire. Job code: CVDJP00034174. Benefits are available. This is a float job. Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation. Mileage expenses paid. Will float to following locations: Naperville, Joliet, Elk Grove Village, Oak Brook, Hoffman Estates, Palos Hills, Chicago, Yorkville, Oak Park, Munster, IN. Minimum 2 years of experience required, and MUST have pediatric experience drawing on newborns.

Phlebotomist will be responsible for blood draws and timed glucose tolerance testing. They will also be responsible for processing those specimens (plus, paps, cultures, urine specimens and those collected by the office staff) in our computer system. The phlebotomist will also be responsible for packaging up the specimens for pick up by the courier. As well as maintaining inventory of stock. High customer service is a must.

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.
  • Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
