Cyber Security Analyst Level II DCWP is seeking to hire a Cyber Security Analyst Level II to join its IT Services Division. The Analyst will assist with implementing cybersecurity policies, standards, directives, and guidelines aligned with citywide policies and defend against cybersecurity incidents.
Major Responsibilities
Assist DoTSS in liaising with the NYC Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) to mitigate security threats in a timely manner.
Respond proactively to alerts and events that could threaten the agency’s IT security posture.
Characterize and analyze network traffic and server/cloud performance metrics to identify anomalous activity and potential threats.
Perform patching on workstations, servers, and network equipment such as switches, voice gateways, and routers.
Analyze malicious activity to determine exploitation methods against agency systems and applications.
Evaluate commercial software in conjunction with OTI for safe use by DCWP.
Guide ITOPS in reimaging/restore devices to known good states after an incident.
Validate, analyze, investigate, and mitigate reported trouble tickets or incidents from OTI.
Ensure staff complete cybersecurity training.
Ensure new software (COTS, on-prem, cloud-based CRM) follows citywide security standards and passes SDLC security accreditation.
Follow up on incident reports and application scan reports to ensure timely mitigation.
Conduct network monitoring and intrusion detection analysis using IDS/IPS, firewalls, and host-based security systems; adjust ACLs as needed.
Conduct log-based and endpoint-based threat detection across multiple sources.
Correlate activity across endpoints, networks, applications, and environments to identify patterns of anomalous or suspicious activity.
Support creation of business continuity/disaster recovery plans, conduct tests, publish results, and address deficiencies.
Research emerging threats and vulnerabilities to aid incident identification.
Provide users with incident response support, including containment actions and forensic analysis facilitation.
Perform security standards testing on computers or IT equipment before implementation.
Coordinate with OTI and ITOPS on IT inventory, DCWP security audits, and coordinate comptroller and CJIS directive audits.
Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree in computer science or related field plus 24 semester credits plus one year of full‑time computer software experience, or
Four‑year high school diploma or equivalent plus five years of full‑time computer software experience, or
Education and experience equivalent to the above; college education may substitute for experience up to two years.
Preferred Skills
Experience in IT audit, enterprise risk management, penetration testing, red team/incident response, or junior security operations analysis.
Experience with regulatory compliance and information security frameworks such as ISO 27000 series, COBIT, NIST 800‑53/800‑171.
Strong decision‑making, influence, and problem‑solving abilities.
Certifications: CISSP, CISA, or CISM.
Knowledge of privileged access management (e.g., Delinea/Centrify).
Familiarity with CISA Binding Operational Directives and security tools (Trellix/McAfee/CrowdStrike/Rapid7, Azure).
