Responsibilities
Plan, design, integrate, troubleshoot and test the physical and logical components of the District’s LAN/WAN, including DNS and DHCP infrastructures, network and systems hardware and software, SAN, and virtual environment, ensuring and/or enhancing user access to district network systems and services to authorized users.
Advise and assist in the development and implementation of the District’s information technology plan, responding to short and long‑term administrative and instructional technology needs.
Develop policies and procedures for proper use of computer technology and the internet for administrative and instructional purposes.
Implement backup and disaster recovery procedures for large systems and networks to ensure rapid recovery from software or hardware problems for mission‑critical systems, networks, and services.
Plan, install, troubleshoot, and maintain physical and virtual servers; ensure reliability of systems, network services, and expansion of the District’s systems infrastructure.
Analyze, identify, and correct technology related to software or hardware, maintaining equipment in a safe, secure, and functional operating condition; ensure efficient operations and resolve operational issues to restore services.
Research and design solutions using new hardware or software products, such as educational applications of technology, to provide technical assistance, advice, and support.
Determine proper software and hardware installation methods for integration and efficiency, ensuring network connectivity and delivering services in compliance with District policies, objectives, and standards.
Document procedures and troubleshooting techniques related to systems/networks software and hardware; develop and review documentation before general distribution, providing written reference and conveying information.
Monitor and maintain software licensing, documents, and records to ensure compliance with the District’s policies and standards.
Maintain current knowledge and framework of established procedures, adhere to appropriate policies, procedures, and guidelines, and ensure timely completion of assigned department projects.
Maintain the District’s directory system and provide user authentication and computer management.
Maintain the District’s management and update systems, providing reliable support and maintenance of desktop and server operating systems.
Serve as a liaison among vendors, technical support hotlines, and departments, resolving complex problems.
Coordinate and implement corrective measures that may involve site visits, telephone assistance, remote management, and participation on technical committees, recommending procedures and providing support.

Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or a related field and five years of increasingly responsible experience in system or network design and maintenance.
Licenses and Other Requirements
Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Certifications such as CCNP, CCDP, CCIP, CCNP‑Security, CCSP, MCSA, MCAD may be required depending on assignment.
Knowledge
Functions of core hardware and software components that comprise large systems or networks, including LAN/WAN, DNS, DHCP infrastructure, SAN, and virtual environments.
Analysis and evaluation techniques to plan, design, integrate, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot large complex systems or networks across technology platforms.
Techniques of designing systems and networks.
Project management and project tracking.
Database administration and development.
Software development tools.
Current and emerging operating systems, network environments, and protocols.
Router and switch configurations.
Inter‑and intranet applications.
Data security.
Abilities
Determine systems or networking requirements to plan for or enhance core data processing needs.
Solve problems with minimal disruption or impact to the system or network.
Exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in designing, planning, troubleshooting, and integrating large complex systems or networks.
Work effectively as a team member.
Participate in meetings.
Understand WAN related problems within area of expertise.
Design, implement, and troubleshoot LANs and WANs over multiple sites.
Develop alternative solutions within established guidelines and standards.
Communicate effectively and convey technical information to non‑technical audiences.
Establish effective working relationships.
Prioritize workload.
Reengineer workflow for users.
Maintain current knowledge of computer and network industry standards, protocols, and trends.
