Amazon EMR is a web service that enables customers to run massive clusters with open-source data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Hive, Presto, Hadoop, and HBase. It spans EC2, EKS, and Serverless deployment modes, serving millions of clusters across all AWS regions.
The Open Data Analytics Fundamentals (ODA Fundamentals) team owns end‑to‑end release lifecycle for Amazon EMR, AWS Glue, and Amazon Athena. The team builds, validates, registers, and distributes AMIs and Docker images that power every cluster, and manages the Kamino pipeline that packages open-source frameworks into production‑ready releases.
Responsibilities
Design and implement services that automate the build, validation, and distribution of releases across all deployment modes and services.
Develop and maintain distributed systems that are reliable, scalable, and secure, ensuring the pipeline directly impacts every EMR, Glue, and Athena customer.
Own end‑to‑end delivery—from design through deployment and operation—of release automation features.
Collaborate with engine teams (Spark, Hive, Presto), platform teams (EC2, EKS, Serverless, Glue, Athena), and security teams.
Participate in on‑call rotations and drive operational excellence for the release pipeline.
Reduce operational toil through automation, improve release velocity, and ensure services are available in all AWS regions.
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of professional software development experience.
2+ years of design or architecture experience with design patterns, reliability, and scalability of new and existing systems.
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
Experience programming in at least one software language.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of full software development life cycle experience—including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code, or release engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
