ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and execute sales plans utilizing Airgas' sales directives and guidelines to service existing accounts, obtain orders, and establish new accounts. Qualify and pursue sales leads.
Cultivate customer relationships by developing a deep knowledge of the customer's business and establishing a consultative relationship.
Engage customers by linking the customer's business priorities to the Airgas value proposition.
Prepare sales proposals by quoting pricing, establishing credit terms, and estimating dates of delivery based on knowledge of Airgas' production and delivery schedules.
Keep current with industry insights, Airgas product mixes, and monitor competition by collecting relevant marketplace information on pricing, products, new offerings, delivery schedules, and merchandising techniques.
Partner with internal resources to accomplish growth objectives and maintain clear communication with internal departments regarding customer successes, opportunities, new developments, and other specific information.
Maintain and submit sales reports (daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly & annual territory analyses) as required by the District Manager through SAP.
Actively review and manage existing customer Accounts Receivable balances to minimize Airgas working capital investment and financial risk.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a science, business, or related field required. In lieu of a degree, up to 4 years of additional related experience may be accepted.
Minimum of 3 years of prior outside business-to-business sales experience, including proven success and experience managing customers throughout a defined sales territory.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Familiarity with industrial and specialty gases; industrial gas/welding supply sales a plus.
Knowledge of customer segmentation and ability to prioritize the targeting of customers delivering the highest value to Airgas.
Proven success using a consultative sales approach to provide multiple layers of value to a customer through a mix of sales solutions and products.
Knowledge of customer business, macro- and microeconomic trends, industry trends, and potential new business opportunities.
Working knowledge of SAP a plus.
Excellent organizational, written and oral communication, listening, and presentation skills.
Strong PC skills (Windows, Word, Excel, email) and ability to adapt to a PC‑based order entry system and handheld scanning device.
Self‑starter; self‑motivated, operates with a sense of urgency, and can work independently.
Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
Ability to solve practical problems and handle varying variables where limited standardization exists.
Reliable transportation, current driver's license, and minimum liability insurance as required by state.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
May be required to remain stationary for extended periods, including sitting in a vehicle for long periods.
May occasionally be required to traverse through office and/or manufacturing locations.
Will frequently be required to listen and exchange information.
Will be required to observe and assess information received via computer.
Requires frequent use of computer, telephone, and operation of a motor vehicle.
May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
ENVIRONMENT
Frequent local travel (approximately 75% of work time).
Minimal overnight travel.
Must have reliable transportation.
Job requires visitation of customer sites with varying environments, conditions, layouts, and accessibility.
