What You’ll Do We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Specialty Benefits team on the Data, Analytics & Innovation team. You will collaborate with other engineers while building new and modernizing existing data pipelines.
Provide data engineering and analysis expertise to maximize effectiveness across multiple technologies. Set standards and oversee technical aspects of data management functions, including creating, collecting, loading, transforming, cleansing, processing, storing, analyzing, and visualizing data. Work directly or in support of data science/analytics to design, develop, test and integrate data from various sources into large-scale processing systems and databases to provide insights that solve business needs. Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality. Understand the trade‑offs between technical, analytical and product needs and lead to solutions that take all of the needs into account.
Demonstrate influence at the BU level; may have direct reports and be responsible for staff recruitment, performance assessment, training, career development and setting clear goal expectations for team members.
Develop strategies for data acquisition and influence others within the business area through explanation of policies, patterns and practices; facilitate strategic discussions and execute tactical plans.
Perform other job‑related duties or special projects as required.
Provide technical advice and weigh in on technical decisions that impact other teams or the company at large; research, influence and propose new technologies; own technical testing and performance plan for work efforts.
Provide technical guidance to team members on integration and functionality of infrastructure components; make others better through code review, thorough documentation, technical guidance, mentoring or servicing as lead on a project; provide feedback on projects outside of core area; provide coaching and mentoring to team members.
Responsible for creating, vetting, and documenting complex data management process designs, models and architectures by setting and understanding architectural patterns and principles; researching new technologies and approaches, driving requirements, testing, debugging, documentation, quality assurance review, implementation, securing and maintenance. Regularly deliver solutions on time and constantly work to make accurate delivery on estimates.
Understand the trade‑offs between technical, analytical and product needs and lead to solutions that take all the needs into account; set direction at the project/service level and consistently influence decision-making at the Pillar/Product level; own and design all data development layers of a solution; set direction for the team in proactively following established controls, policies, regulations and recommend mitigation strategies during development; coordinate with others to work through and create action plans as a result of risk assessments or detected vulnerabilities.
Who You Are
Bachelor’s degree plus 6+ years related work experience or a Master’s in related field plus 2+ years related work experience.
Proven experience as an IT professional.
Solid leadership and presentation skills required.
Knowledge of financial services products, processes and business unit applications preferred.
Ability to work directly with data and datastores through programming language such as SQL, Python, Typescript.
Experience with a variety of data modeling techniques and data structures.
Ability to optimize data for analytics and data science.
Experience building/operating systems for data extraction, ingestion and processing of large data sets.
Knowledge and direct experience using business intelligence reporting tools.
Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources.
Advanced planning, organizational, problem‑solving, analytical, decision‑making and communication skills required.
Ability to collaborate with others required.
Must be able to effectively communicate strategies and designs to all levels of the company.
Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
May be required to provide on‑call support.
Salary Range Information Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non‑sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based on geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly) $105,000 - $165,000 / year
Locations
Wichita, KS: $105,000 - $123,000 / year
Des Moines, IA: $110,000 - $130,000 / year
Charlotte, NC: $116,000 - $136,000 / year
Chicago/Minneapolis: $127,000 - $150,000 / year
Los Angeles/New York City: $140,000 - $165,000 / year
Time Off Program Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environment This role offers in‑office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Raleigh, NC, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
