Job Summary The role includes management of LAN, WAN, and wireless networks; support for telecom networks; installation and configuration of equipment; performance monitoring; issue troubleshooting; collaboration with cybersecurity and network architects; capacity planning; disaster recovery; vendor coordination; and project tasks, with CJIS certification required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Implement, manage and support LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, including firewalls, routers, switches, and VPNs.
Support all aspects of the district’s telecom network, including VoIP, SIP, and POTS.
Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and security activities involving network and telecommunication equipment.
Monitor network performance to ensure system availability and reliability.
Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide support as needed.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to secure network design and implementation.
Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, and procedures.
Collaborate with network architects on design, configuration, and documentation of the network.
Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Work with vendors and service providers to resolve issues and manage service delivery.
Define the scope of project-related milestones in collaboration with project managers and stakeholders.
Perform project-related tasks as part of strategic project teams as needed.
Ability to register and certify with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
Knowledge
Computer network domains, technologies, and protocols.
Networked systems access and security guidelines and procedures.
Network performance tuning techniques.
Current trends and information sources for managing network systems.
Project planning and management principles.
System backup and recovery procedures and techniques.
Strong understanding of OSI model, subnetting, NAT, VLANs, and IP routing.
Deep knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP.
Familiarity with network security concepts including ACLs, IPS/IDS, VPNs, and firewall policies.
Understanding of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP) architectures and services.
Knowledge of network automation concepts and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.
Skills
Routing & Switching expertise using Cisco (IOS, NX-OS).
Firewalls & Security using Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA/Firepower, VPNs (IPSec, SSL).
Wireless network configuration using Aruba, Cisco WLC, and Meraki.
DNS Server Skills: Understanding of DNS hierarchy, knowledge of DNS record types and familiarity with BIND configuration files preferred. Experience with Windows DNS Server and Active Directory a plus.
Expertise using monitoring & tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark, NetFlow, SNMP, Syslog.
Cloud networking skills in MS Azure and AWS environments.
Software defined networking.
Scripting & Automation: Python, Ansible, REST APIs (preferred).
Other: DHCP, NTP, RADIUS, TACACS+, NetScaler/F5 (optional).
The ability to drive legally in the state of Texas.

Required Work Experience
Five years experience in network-related technology roles.
Three years related work experience working on the installation, configuration, and maintenance of routers, Ethernet switches, wireless access points, VPN concentrators, and firewall devices.
Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark).
Proven experience with Cisco and Aruba network equipment.
Required Education
Associate degree. Four years of related work experience may substitute for the degree.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, PCNSE, F5 Certified, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent are strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
Salary Range (PG 9) $76,934 – $96,166
