Job Title: Systems Administrator
Education Level: College diploma or university degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Networking, or Computer Science and/or three years equivalent work experience
Certification/Licensure: Certifications preferred but not required
Work Location: On-site – Kearney, NE
Important: This is a fully in-person position. Applicants must be able to reliably commute to our location and work on-site during all scheduled hours.
Knowledge & Experience
Experience with Windows and Mac end‑user devices in an enterprise environment including MDM experience or previous support experience in some capacity.
Experience in managing Windows Servers, creating GPOs, and Windows Server roles including: DNS, DHCP, NPAS, and Hyper‑V.
Experience with shell scripting in either PowerShell, bash, or Python.
Foundational knowledge of networking including VLANs, subnetting, and troubleshooting the OSI stack.
Basics of Active Directory LDAP experience required and knowledge of DNS is also preferred.
Previous experience or knowledge of virtualization and clustering is preferred in either Hyper‑V, VMWare, or Proxmox.
Foundational understanding of Linux operating systems is preferred.
Foundational knowledge of virtualization storage (RAID arrays, iSCSI, NFS, Storage Spaces Direct).
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Experience in reading and articulating open source documentation from community driven projects.
Fundamental understanding of systems automation methodologies such as DevOps or SysOps.
Basic understanding of cybersecurity needs and requirements in an enterprise environment.
Essential Functions of Position
Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long‑term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end‑users and department managers.
Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration function to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of systems utilizing industry best practices and organization standards to meet corporate objectives and business demands.
Perform and review security audits and scans regularly and implement necessary changes.
Actively collaborate while troubleshooting cross‑platform, hardware, client software or other integration solutions.
Maintain and support MDM solutions to streamline workstation deployment.
Assist in planning, maintaining, and testing system backups to ensure successful restoration can be achieved in the event of an IT disaster.
Monitor system, server, and application performance and provide statistics and reports as requested.
Support and understand CI/CD framework in application and systems lifecycle to further automation.
Establish system standards and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure system security.
Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software and hardware procurement and development efforts.
Recommend, plan, schedule, and perform hardware and software improvements, upgrades, patches, and reconfigurations.
Participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and service.
Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Adhere to regular and dependable attendance.
Willingness to learn new technologies and adopt ESU 10’s IT strategic concepts.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions
Remote on‑call availability for up to 14 days per month.
Occasional regional weekly travel required.

Job Requirements
At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
