Overview Are you an experienced Systems Administrator III, ready for a unique opportunity to grow with an environmental state agency? Join TCEQ! We bring passion and drive to carry out our mission of protecting our state’s public health and natural resources. This position is a member of our Information Resources Division within the Administrative Services area.
What you’ll be doing
Support and maintain enterprise application systems and software environments for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Coordinate the administration of software environments and applications to ensure systems meet the agency’s business needs. Assist with software security planning, performing security remediation, and the implementation of security measures.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate system implementations and upgrades. Work with vendors and customers to facilitate smooth transitions to upgraded systems. Prepare system architecture diagrams and descriptions that represent current and proposed systems, including costs and benefits.
Monitor and respond to customer issues and perform analysis and problem isolation to troubleshoot and resolve customer service issues and drive performance improvements. Act as a mentor for junior administrators and as a technical resource for other administrators.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A bachelor’s degree in information technologies or related field from an accredited college or university plus two (2) years of full-time experience in computer systems administration, network administration, or operating system programming in an open systems environment; OR completion of 15 semester hours in information technologies plus three (3) years of full-time experience in computer system administration, network administration, or operating system programming in an open systems environment; OR four (4) years of full-time experience in computer systems administration, network administration, or operating system programming in an open systems environment.
All of the above minimum qualifications must include successful completion of two (2) years of full-time experience as a UNIX, LINUX, Novell, or Windows Server System Administrator in a multi-platform environment.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.
Transcript / college hours or course work: A copy of your official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials in CAPPS is required if needed to meet the qualifications listed above.
Work Schedule Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Information Resources Division.
