We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Assistant As a Clinic Lab Assistant at MercyOne, you will perform phlebotomy and laboratory support services in an outpatient clinic setting. Responsibilities include greeting patients, verifying orders, collecting and processing specimens, and preparing lab orders and reports. This role ensures quality and accuracy in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational mission, values, and performance expectations.
Performs phlebotomy procedures (venipuncture and capillary) and collects other specimens following proper protocols.
Prepares, labels, and processes specimens, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to regulatory and infection control guidelines (e.g., CLIA, COLA, OSHA).
Conducts waived and routine lab testing; reports and documents the result in the electronic health record, including critical values. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots lab equipment; performs and documents quality control and proficiency testing.
Verifies lab orders and medical necessities; completes ABNs and corrects billing codes as needed.
Accurately enters and manages data in the Electronic Health Record (EHR); reviews and corrects billing reports.
Maintains supply inventory; stocks areas appropriately and communicates needs to supervisor.
Provides patient-centered service by communicating test procedures, results, and follow-up instructions clearly and compassionately.
Assists with clerical duties including faxing, copying, filing, scheduling, and answering phone calls. Supports cross-coverage needs, within scope, throughout clinic/lab areas. Serves as a resource for colleagues and patients.
Follows all safety, infection control, and universal precaution standards; maintains a clean and organized work area.
Deliver patient care through patient preparation, vital sign collection, and documentation. Assist with various procedures, exams, and diagnostic equipment (e.g., tympanometry, spirometry). Maintain aseptic techniques during preparation, procedures, and medication administration.

General Requirements:
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
Completion of medical terminology or phlebotomy training preferred.
Previous laboratory or phlebotomy experience preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association or Red Cross required within 30 days of hire; must be maintained.
Mandatory Reporter training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse required within 3–6 months of hire; must be maintained.
Proficient in basic computer skills (Windows environment, web-based navigation, email, MS Office).
Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patient, visitors, and colleagues while performing their job duties.
Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
