Syndicus NACON is seeking a talented Data Engineer to support the ingestion of mission-critical and mission-support datasets into a big data environment. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting cyber or network-related missions within government or military environments as a developer, analyst, or engineer.
This role focuses on building and maintaining data ingestion infrastructure, supporting data analysis initiatives, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of large-scale data pipelines. The position also includes leadership responsibilities within the department, requiring strong technical expertise and the ability to guide teams toward strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain scalable data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured datasets
Support government data acquisition, analysis, and sharing initiatives
Design and maintain software infrastructure for big data ingestion and processing
Integrate new data sources and optimize existing data ingestion pipelines
Implement testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting processes for data systems
Ensure data integrity and reliability across data pipelines
Provide technical leadership within the department and contribute to strategic goals
Minimum Qualifications
Active TS/SCI security clearance (eligible)
14+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, database engineering, or related fields
Experience with unit testing and integration testing
Experience with data extraction, translation development, and loading processes
Familiarity with data formats such as JSON, XML, and similar structured formats
Experience with data flow and storage technologies such as Kafka, Apache NiFi, AWS S3, and SQS
Strong troubleshooting skills for system and data flow issues
DoD IAT II certification or higher required
Technical Skills
Programming languages: Java, Python (preferred), SQL
Data pipeline technologies including Apache NiFi, Kafka, AWS S3/SQS
Version control and build tools such as GitLab and Maven
Experience with configuration management using YAML files
Familiarity with development environments such as VS Code, IntelliJ, or PyCharm
Experience with Linux environments and basic server administration
Desired Skills
Experience supporting cyber or network security operations
Experience with Agile development environments
Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Familiarity with Apache Airflow workloads
Experience with Amazon S3/SNS administration
Experience with Mage AI is a plus
Strong documentation and communication skills
Work Location Hybrid position based in San Antonio, TX .
Benefits
Salary range: $129,000 - $229,000 per year depending on experience
