Medical Assistant East Bay Community Action Program is hiring for a full-time Medical Assistant! The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to providers in the day-to-day operation of the medical and behavioral health programs. This position interacts with patients, their families and members of the multidisciplinary team in a community health setting and assists providers and other clinical staff with assigned daily tasks to advance EBCAP's mission of providing comprehensive community healthcare services. Key Responsibilities Patient Care and Clinical Support
Greet patients, family members and visitors, respect their confidentiality and privacy, and assist in making the visit informative and comfortable Perform initial assessments of patients including medical, social, and psychological history Obtain vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight and height of each assigned patient Review and update with patient all allergies, medications, immunizations, medical and social history prior to visit with provider Screen patient for appropriate information per EBCAP's policies and procedures (depression, anxiety, alcohol use, tobacco use, etc.) Perform specialized testing including audiometry, Snellen eye chart testing, EKG testing, and in-house CLIA lab testing as ordered by medical provider
Administrative and Documentation
Professionally answer phones and triage nurse or other clinical staff Accurately and completely document patient contact and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR) Assist clinical staff with paperwork aspects of patient care including prior authorizations, referral tracking, lab tracking, and diagnostic testing tracking Abstract lab tests and diagnostic reports into electronic medical record Process lab specimens and complete appropriate lab forms
Care Coordination and Communication
Communicate with internal and external providers/facilities to effectively coordinate healthcare across all specialties Provide external specialist/facility with patient care summary before scheduled appointment and obtain specialist's recommendations after patient's visit Participate in pre-visit planning and care coordination by reviewing medical charts before scheduled appointments Obtain precertification for tests, procedures, treatments, and specialists for patients as needed
Program Support and Professional Development
Participate in training for quality improvement, patient communication, clinical population management, and self-management support Participate in staff meetings and contribute to discussions including concerns and suggestions to promote quality improvement Assist other providers in the absence of assigned medical assistants and work in any specialty area or location as needed Support specialized programs including Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Health Disparities Collaborative
Qualifications Experience: Prior experience or completion of a medical assistant internship Education: High School Diploma/equivalent and completion of medical assistant training from an accredited Medical Assistant Program Certifications: Basic Life Support certification required Knowledge: Agency personnel policies/procedures, medical office procedures and terminology, cultural sensitivity necessary to work with diverse patient and staff population Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual Portuguese or Spanish Previous experience in community health center or federally qualified health center (FQHC) setting Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems Previous experience in integrated behavioral health and medical care models
