GEICO is seeking a Staff AI engineer to join our AI organization. This role focuses on the technical leadership and development of Geico’s virtual agent platform, which supports over 20,000 contact center employees across claims, service, and sales operations. Responsibilities
Technical Design & Implementation: Own design, development and maintenance of high-performance, durable and scalable platform components, including knowledge management, search, prompt management, workflow orchestration, action execution systems, logging & tracing, and semantic knowledge graph. System Evaluation: Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of software technologies, tools, and frameworks, balancing build vs. buy, speed to market, and maintainability for individual systems and platform components. Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work with data scientists, ML engineers, software engineers, product managers, and designers to gather requirements, define project scope, and prioritize feature backlogs. Establish pragmatic technical visions and roadmaps that balance business outcomes, product release timelines, and engineering excellence. Project Planning: Assist in planning and estimating software development projects, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely delivery of solutions. Technical Leadership: Lead a small team of engineers for feature implementation. Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues, ensuring optimal system performance and reliability. Mentorship: Guide junior engineers through code reviews and design sessions, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance team culture and advancing AI engineering best practices across the company. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field. 6+ years of professional software development experience with at least two general‑purpose programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or C#. 6+ years of experience designing and building AI/ML systems using open‑source or cloud‑agnostic components (e.g., search engines like Elastic Search or Qdrant, data warehouses such as Snowflake, streaming platforms such as Kafka, relational databases like PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra, distributed processing engines like Spark or Ray, workflow management tools such as Airflow or Temporal, robotic process automation, and context management). 4+ years of experience managing the end‑to‑end software development life cycle (version control, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes clusters, testing, monitoring & alerting, production support, etc.). 4+ years building training, fine‑tuning, real‑time/batch inference, and evaluation systems for AI/ML models and large language models, utilizing GPU‑powered infrastructure. 2+ years of experience fine‑tuning or deploying large language models (GPT, Llama, Mistral, Claude, etc.) to create conversational experiences and/or agentic workflows. Annual Salary
$130,000 - $260,000. This range is a general guideline and final compensation will reflect the scope and responsibilities of the role, candidate’s experience, education, location, and market conditions. Equal Employment Opportunity
