We are seeking an experienced Security Design Engineer that possesses hands-on experience installing and programming access control and CCTV systems, is comfortable working in the field, and knows how to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
Security Design Engineer About the Role We are seeking an experienced Commercial Security Design Engineer to lead the design and specification of integrated electronic security systems for commercial, institutional, and critical infrastructure clients. In this role, you will be responsible for the full design lifecycle - from site assessment and concept development through final construction documentation - ensuring that every system we deliver meets the client's security objectives, applicable codes, and our quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design integrated security systems including access control, video surveillance (CCTV/IP), intrusion detection/alarm systems, and converged security platforms for commercial projects
Develop complete design packages including system drawings, single-line diagrams, floor plan layouts, riser diagrams, equipment schedules, and written specifications
Perform site surveys and security risk assessments to inform system design recommendations
Select appropriate hardware, software, and infrastructure components based on project requirements, budget, and performance criteria
Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, IT teams, and general contractors to ensure seamless integration into the broader building systems environment
Project Support & Client Engagement
Participate in client discovery meetings to understand security requirements, operational workflows, and budget constraints
Prepare and present design concepts and technical proposals to clients and stakeholders
Provide technical clarification and respond to RFIs during the construction and installation phases
Review submittals, shop drawings, and as-built documentation for conformance with design intent
Standards & Compliance
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (IBC, NFPA, UL, NEC, ASIS guidelines, etc.)
Stay current with evolving threats, technology platforms, and industry best practices
Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal design standards, templates, and preferred system configurations
Hybrid or office-based with regular travel to client sites for surveys and project meetings
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Occasional after-hours availability for critical project milestones or client needs
