Über
Transport patients and their personal property using wheelchairs, carts and beds through the admission, discharge and transfer procedures. Transport patients with/without IVs and oxygen to and from Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Physiology and other departments, including the morgue as necessary. Clean, sanitize and account for transportation equipment, wheelchairs and patient carts and store in designated areas. Provide wheelchairs for ACC, other areas and visitors, restock portable oxygen tanks and respond to all transport requests with a sense of urgency. Activate and complete tasks at the start or end location via phone system. Notify nursing caregivers, clinicians, technicians or reception upon arrival of the patient. Complete required logs and forms, including Critical Information. Verify correct patient identification through appropriate means (i.e. armband, chart, pager, DOB, etc.) for proper mode of transportation and standard precautions. Assist nursing caregivers in bedding or moving patients from bed into wheelchair or onto stretcher. Consult with nursing caregivers before lifting and transferring patients and obtain assistance when necessary. Complete transports quickly and efficiently and notify dispatchers when assignments are initiated, completed or when delays/cancellations are encountered. Understand and apply knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control practices and proper body mechanics for lifting and moving patients.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED Demonstrated interest and aptitude Expressed genuine concern and care for patient welfare
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transfer patients requiring much assistance with minimal help.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
