Overview Raytheon is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Principal Software Engineer to join the Electronic Warfare (EW) software development team in Goleta, CA. The role focuses on leading cross‑disciplinary product teams, managing the design and development of advanced software and systems that protect warfighters. What You Will Do The principal engineer will provide technical leadership and active participation on integrated product teams, employing agile system and software development operations to plan, specify, design, test, and integrate complex software and systems solutions. The role involves inventing and innovating new products and technologies, from architecture and design through integration, lab test and field test; collaborating with other disciplines and senior technical staff; producing planning and technical work products; and establishing original solutions to complex problems. The engineer will develop software and FPGA‑level interface requirements derived from system requirements, conduct simulations, analysis, and laboratory testing, and work in an advanced product development environment alongside systems, firmware, electrical, and software engineers. Responsibilities Technical leadership and collaboration on cross‑disciplinary integrated product teams employing agile development operations Design, plan, specify, test, and integrate complex software and system solutions Create inventions and innovations for new products and technologies, from architecture through lab and field testing Collaborate with disciplines and senior technical staff while producing planning and technical work products for internal customers Develop software and FPGA interface requirements from system‑level requirements Perform simulations, analysis, and laboratory testing of software Work in a product development environment with systems, firmware, electrical, and software engineers Identify and root‑cause issues; develop creative resolution strategies in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment Engage with Systems’ and Electrical Engineers on occasional business‑related travel Qualifications – Must Have Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in software design, integration, and test using C/C++ Experience with embedded microprocessor design, SoC software design, FPGAs, high‑speed transceivers, DDR, flash memories, block diagrams, signal analyses, or signal generation Experience developing real‑time applications on embedded platforms (bare metal, embedded Linux, or Windows environments) Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance (U.S. citizenship required) Qualifications – Preferred Existing Secret security clearance Knowledge of Electronic Warfare, Electronic Attack/Electronic Support, Radar, or Secure Communications technology Experience with .NET C#, WPF, and MVVM Familiarity with Visual Studio, Vitis, TortoiseSVN, Jenkins, Jira, and Collaborator Background in DevSecOps, pipeline toolsets, and creation Laboratory experience with logic analyzers, high‑speed oscilloscopes, signal generators, and SoC debugging tools Experience with bus and interface standards such as VME, PCI, PCIe, VPX, or Gb Ethernet Comprehensive knowledge of software lifecycle phases (architecture, requirements, design, implementation, verification, integration, maintenance) Radar technology, machine learning, and algorithm development experience Agile development process experience Benefits and Compensation Compensation range: $118,300 – $224,900 Healthcare, wellness, retirement, and work/life benefits Parental leave (including paternal) Flexible work schedules Achievement awards, educational assistance, child/adult backup care Career development and recognition programs Equal Opportunity Employer RTX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
