Full-Time or Casual/PRN On-site 1 Position Available Position Summary Provide quality patient care, diagnostic imaging services, and excellent customer service. Responsible for managing patients from exam order through completion of services. Duties include scheduling, performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations, maintaining quality standards, and collaborating with physicians, radiologists, clinics, and hospital departments. Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures in a safe and effective manner to produce high-quality imaging studies, including:
General abdominal exams OB/GYN exams Small parts imaging Venous Doppler studies Carotid Doppler studies Ensures compliance with exam protocols, patient confidentiality requirements, quality control standards, infection prevention practices, and image archiving procedures. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Patient Registration and Scheduling
Register and check in patients. Verify authorizations and medical necessity requirements. Confirm accuracy of physician orders and required authorizations. Ensure required laboratory results are available for contrast-enhanced CT studies. Schedule patients according to departmental protocols. Enter accurate patient demographics and orders into the Radiology Information System (RIS). Examination Performance
Perform examinations according to physician orders and departmental protocols. Document required information accurately. Make completed examinations available for radiologist interpretation through PACS. Complete exam documentation within the electronic health record system. Perform exams independently from start to finish. Infection Control
Clean equipment and exam areas after every patient. Maintain proper hand hygiene practices. Disinfect high-touch surfaces. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain quality assurance processes for equipment. Department Competencies
Maintain ultrasound competencies. Demonstrate proficiency with scheduling systems. Demonstrate proficiency using PACS and related imaging systems. Core Accountabilities Clinical Excellence
Collaborate with radiologists and physicians by providing technical expertise. Review pathology, surgical, and delivery reports as appropriate to evaluate diagnostic accuracy. Follow established imaging protocols. Correlate clinical history with requested examinations. Utilize appropriate imaging techniques, including:
2-D imaging 3-D imaging M-mode Doppler Color flow imaging
Technical Skills
Select appropriate transducers and imaging settings. Confirm patient preparation requirements. Explain procedures to patients. Obtain required measurements and labeling. Produce high-quality diagnostic images. Clinical Judgment
Recognize normal and abnormal anatomical structures. Differentiate artifacts from pathological findings. Determine when modifications to standard imaging techniques are necessary. Accurately identify and document findings for physician interpretation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic computer proficiency. Ability to stand, walk, reach, kneel, bend, stoop, push, and pull as needed. Ability to maneuver patients safely during imaging procedures. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, patients, families, and the public. Knowledge of sterile techniques. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Sound decision-making and accountability. Ability to practice within legal and ethical standards. Commitment to patient safety and confidentiality. Compliance with HIPAA requirements. Ability to cross-train in additional imaging modalities and assist with staff training. Education Requirements Required
Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an approved educational program. Maintenance of continuing education requirements as required by certifying body. Qualifications equivalent to applicable diagnostic medical sonographer standards. Experience Requirements Preferred
One (1) year of experience performing abdominal and OB/GYN ultrasound examinations. Breast ultrasound experience preferred. Certification and Licensure Requirements Required
State medical imaging license upon start date. ARDMS certification or equivalent in Abdomen and/or OB/GYN. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification. Preferred
None specified. Work Environment Healthcare setting requiring direct patient interaction, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, adherence to infection control standards, and operation of diagnostic imaging equipment.
