Within UHG Trend Analytics, the Data Engineering function is predominantly involved in developing business solutions by creating new and modifying existing healthcare data enrichment applications.
As a Sr. Data Engineer, you will apply your expertise across the data engineering SDLC, with a strong emphasis on designing and optimizing scalable ETL pipelines and workflows. You will serve as a key contributor in delivering reliable, high-performance data applications that support large-scale healthcare datasets from multiple source systems.
You’ll be joining a high-performing team recognized as leaders in healthcare cost analytics. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering high-quality data solutions in a fast-paced, SLA-driven environment while helping shape the future of our data platforms.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize scalable ETL/data pipelines across platforms such as SQL Server, Snowflake, and Databricks
Work with large, complex healthcare datasets (e.g., claims, membership, provider data), supporting enrichment, transformation, and reconciliation processes
Support recurring production cycles in a fast-paced, SLA-driven environment, including monitoring, validation, and issue resolution
Lead and support critical production issue resolution, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
Partner with business stakeholders, analysts, and actuaries to translate complex requirements into reliable data solutions
Conduct code reviews and promote best practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable solutions
Provide accurate and timely estimates for development and support work
Ensure data accuracy and integrity through validation, reconciliation, and quality controls
Serve as a technical leader within the team by contributing to design decisions, standards, and continuous improvement efforts
Collaborate with team members to meet or exceed service level agreements and delivery commitments
Note: This role includes a mix of development and production support responsibilities.

Required Qualifications
6+ years of data engineering work experience
6+ years of experience designing and developing ETL/data pipelines
6+ years of experience working across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC)
3+ years of experience working with cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure, and/or Databricks
3+ years of experience in Python
Solid hands‑on experience writing and optimizing complex SQL in enterprise-scale environments
Proven ability to work with large, complex datasets and deliver scalable, high-performance solutions
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with additional programming languages such as .NET
Experience working with healthcare data, including medical, pharmacy, or administrative claims
Experience writing and executing functional and technical specifications
Familiarity with data modeling concepts and data warehousing principles
Demonstrated proficiency with database design, querying, optimization, and troubleshooting in Oracle, SQL Server, and/or Teradata
Proven ability to be self‑motivated and work independently and in a team environment

Competitive salary ranging from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment
