Provides on-site maintenance and trouble-shooting for personal computer hardware and peripherals, software and network connections and other equipment. Including diagnosis of operation problems and recommends appropriate action. Performs software installation and setup procedures. Performs network configuration procedures. Performs component diagnosis and replacement. Assists assigned users in use of computer software, including standard office software, network and systems client software, and specialized software that may be used. Responds to assigned trouble calls from users through workflow requests. Performs fire district and police department needs assessment; coordinates assessments projects with staff.
Performs project assignments, as required, including maintaining equipment records, and purchasing supplies, in accordance with City purchasing policy.
Keeps immediate supervisor and designee fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems, attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials current on the principles, practice and new developments in assigned work areas.
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. Researches, designs, develops/adjusts, and makes recommendations to fire command and police command staff on identified innovative technology trends with a focus on fiscal responsibility and feasibility of use. Maintains an accurate inventory of fire district and city-owned property held by the department(s) and maintains that record for inspection or audit; assists the Finance Department and IT/Enterprise Coordinator with recordkeeping. Ensures reliability of systems, software, and other electronic records for purposes of retention of confidential data as it may relate to professional standards investigations, criminal investigations, or other information sensitive to law enforcement, human resources, or pending litigation. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree from an accredited college or technical school; AND (3) three years of experience in computer science, computer systems networks, information technology and information systems, program or facilities management, or related fields; OR Completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university program and the equivalent of two years of experience in systems, program or facilities management, or related fields; OR Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Iowa driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Ability to successfully pass DCI background check. Required to complete a pre-employment offer physical examination and drug screening. VoIP Telephone Systems Network switches and wireless communications Door access and building camera control systems Basic networking practices Fiber optic data cabling Cardiac monitors Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) Medical vending machines Mobile Data Computer (MDC) Knox Box Basic computer hardware repair/ maintenance skills. These repairs to include:
Troubleshooting vehicle up fitting components/ programing to minimize outside vendor costs Working with the I.T. Department of other partnering public safety entities to maintain proper Mobile Data Computer/Computer Aided Dispatch functionality Loading/updating various software on various technologies Maintain and troubleshoot mobile electronic platform to include; MDC and dock, scanner, printer, GPS, radio system & CAD Ability to coordinate repairs and services to hardware and equipment Experience in urgent demand, multi-disciplinary program management Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and the ability to establish relationships. Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities within a timely manner. Ability to prioritize and work under pressure. Ability to use independent judgment to make sound decisions. Voluntary coverage is available with maximum of 5x salary or $300,000 in $10,000 increments.
