Athletic Trainer – Public School Athletic League (PSAL) Clinical Coordinator We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Athletic Trainer for a dual-role position supporting the HSS Public School Athletic League (PSAL) Outreach Program, youth sports outreach and other regional programming. This role includes coordination of the HSS PSAL outreach program, independent high school athletic training coverage, and direct clinical support to Sports Medicine providers within the HSS Sports Medicine Institute. Primary Responsibilities I. Clinical Coordinator – HSS PSAL Outreach Program
Organize and manage physician coverage for all PSAL games, including scheduling and provider communication. Provide independent weekly athletic training room coverage at designated PSAL high schools, serving as a primary point of contact for injury evaluation, triage, and management of student-athletes. Provide evening and weekend football game coverage to assigned PSAL high schools, when needed. Coordinate referrals to HSS sports medicine physicians and other appropriate specialists. Support HSS's mission to provide community benefit and address healthcare disparities and social determinants of health. Develop and maintain strong relationships with PSAL schools, athletic directors, physical therapists, referring primary care and specialty providers and athletes and their families.
II. Advanced Practice Provider – Sports Medicine Institute
Prepare and organize medical records prior to patient visits, including relevant imaging, prior documentation, and clinical history. Deliver patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and rehabilitation, including development of personalized exercise programs and home exercise plans. Assist with in-office procedures as appropriate to training and scope of practice. Assist with coordinating the patient follow-up process, including referrals, imaging, therapy, medications, and return-to-play planning. Serve as a liaison between the physician, nursing, and office staff to promote efficient, coordinated patient care.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training Current BOC certification CPR/AED certification Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in the high school setting Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Prior experience working in a high school athletic training setting and/or academic sports medicine practice preferred
Physical Working Conditions Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs). Examples: Nurses, LPNs, and Physical Therapists. Environmental Working Conditions Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians. Hazards OSHA Category 1 Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.
