Certified Nursing Assistant - CNA A one-of-a-kind community & the gateway to cranberry country The Location – Tomah, WI Tomah is a community located within Monroe County in central Wisconsin where interstates 90/94 divide. Explore Tomah The Facility – Tomah VA Medical Center Tomah VAMC excels in patient-centered Primary Care, Whole Health, Mental Health, Rehabilitative and long-term healthcare, partnering with other VHA and community organizations providing a fully integrated continuum of care. Veterans Street, Tomah, WI 54660, and 2 other area sites. Position Overview CNA helps patients with direct health care needs, often under the supervision of a nurse. CNAs work directly with patients and nurses, helping with the many physical and complex tasks for patient care. Provide direct patient care and/or close observation of patients.
Serves as a member of the nursing staff and carries out routine nursing care and other personal services to assigned patients on any ward or tour assigned. Performs a range of personal nursing care which includes activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, lifting and turning patients, providing oral, nail, hair related hygiene care, routine foley, oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal, and performing preventive, rehabilitative, application of braces, prosthetic devices, utilizes equipment to promote veteran self-care i.e.; lift equipment, Hydro sounds tubs and Veteran/Resident Wandering system. Utilizes therapeutic care/procedures within the scope of a Nursing Assistant. Documents all care provided in the appropriate clinical records. Observes significant conditions, both physical and emotional that are relevant to the health status of the patient. Provides timely and accurate reports to their team leader or designated superior and documents all relevant information in the clinical record. Gives special attention to details of care since patients are often too ill or confused to speak for themselves. Provides information to the treatment team for inclusion in the veteran/residents plan of care, participates in treatment team meetings for resident care planning. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking vital signs, collecting and transporting specimens, and preparing and escorting patients for discharge, tests, examinations, treatments and/or surgery per established procedures. Documents all relevant information in the clinical record. Performs a range of treatment procedures that include changing dressings, colostomy care, tracheotomy care, skincare, simple dressing and caring for patients in isolation, and/or continuous observation (1:1) status. Documents all relevant information in the clinical record. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment; observes all policies pertaining to universal precautions. Provides for safety needs of patients by maintaining a clean and safe environment. Removes defective equipment, reports hazards, observes safety regulations, contributes to infection control, and utilizes proper aseptic technique in performance of duties. Recognizes emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary arrest, choking, seizures, dysreflexia, etc., and takes appropriate action, and reports situations immediately. Documents all relevant information in the clinical record. Accompanies patients on diagnostic or therapeutic trips assuming responsibility for basic decisions within the scope of a Certified Nursing Assistant while away from nursing units. Documents all relevant information in the clinical record. Initiates emergency measures to control disruptive or violent behavior. Documents all relevant information in the clinical record. Assists in the delivery of patient care as directed by the RN or LPN/LVN. Respects patient's rights, including but not limited to visual and auditory privacy. Displays an attitude of caring, compassion, commitment, courtesy and competence toward all veterans and their families by treating them as customers, greeting them with a smile, referring to them by name, responding to their needs, maintaining confidentiality and treating them with dignity and respect at all times.
Qualifications
Is a certified nursing assistant (CNA) Has at least two year's experience as a CNA within the last three years in one of the following: Community Living Center, Medical-Surgical, Emergency Room, Mental Health and/or Critical Care Is capable of providing nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients. Has and maintains current BCLS certification. Must have US citizenship Must have COVID Vaccine Certification
