Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth and safe surgical operations. Essential Responsibilities
Assist with procedural tasks and monitor instruments and equipment to ensure compliance with sterilization and safety standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST. Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment following established protocols. Adapt to changing department activity levels by reprioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently. Use supplies judiciously to maintain quality care without waste. Support nursing staff by obtaining non-routine supplies promptly to avoid delays in patient care. Collaborate with the surgical team to plan and adjust patient care provisions as needed. Participate in revising preference cards, instrument sets, and supply pull sheets to incorporate technological advances. Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately. Work closely with healthcare providers to coordinate intraoperative care, including setup of instruments and supplies before cases. Respond quickly and effectively to multiple requests under stressful conditions. Maintain a professional and quiet environment, minimizing noise and disruptions. Exemplify excellent guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers. Collaborate with the operative team to optimize patient flow and adapt to schedule changes. Patient Safety
Ensure thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all instruments and equipment used in patient care. Prepare for surgical interventions tailored to individual patient needs and respond to unexpected changes during procedures. Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies. Follow standards of practice for instrument and supply sterility, including double-checking medications and supplies passed to the sterile field. Maintain a culture of safety by reporting any breaches in sterile technique or patient care activities. Professional Development
Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment. Share expertise with colleagues through orientation, cross-training, and mentorship. Demonstrate leadership and serve as a resource for peers, students, and new employees. Identify professional development needs and collaborate with management to pursue learning opportunities. Participate in departmental goal setting and attend in-services on product and practice changes. Customer Service
Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare team members. Provide a professional and calm patient environment, practicing AIDET (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You). Foster a team-oriented atmosphere by being approachable and maintaining positive interdepartmental relationships. Be flexible with assignments, staffing needs, and shift schedules. Education and Certification
Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the appropriate state nursing board.
Work Schedule Full-time position with scheduled hours from 7:00am to 3:30pm, totaling 40 hours per week. This role is based in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States.
