Assist students with disabilities in safely boarding, riding, and exiting school transportation before, during, andafter the regular school hours as needed. Secure students using appropriate safety restraints and assistive devices as instructed. Support students with mobility or behavioral needs while riding on the bus or transitioning to/from the classroom. Follow and enforce safety rules and behavioral expectations during bus transport and instructional activities. Assist special education teachers in preparing and organizing instructional materials. Support students with academic tasks under teacher supervision. Monitor and reinforce classroom routines, communication strategies, and behavioral plans as directed. Communicate professionally and respectfully with teachers, drivers, aides, and students. Follow all safety and emergency protocols as trained. Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
Non-Essential Functions
Participate in school or department meetings or training sessions as available. Assist with general classroom tidying and organization when needed. Accompany students to other supervised school activities under direction. Perform other duties as assigned by supervising staff, within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
Must be at least 14 years of age. Must be currently enrolled in high school within the South Sanpete School District. Must have a recommendation and references from at least one of the following:
High School Principal Special Education Teacher School Counselor Teaching as a Profession Teacher Work-Based Learning Coordinator
Ability to pass a Bus Rider Safety Exam, including lifting and securing various weights and assistive devices. Willingness and physical ability to assist with mobility, safety, and behavioral needs of students. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and maintain attention to detail. Demonstrated maturity, reliability, and professionalism in working with peers and adults. Willingness to learn and apply disability awareness, confidentiality protocols, and support strategies.
