Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and surgical teams with procedural tasks. Ensure adherence to established standards for instrument processing and sterile technique to promote patient safety and quality care. Essential Responsibilities
Assist surgical teams with procedural needs and prioritize tasks based on department activity. Monitor and maintain instruments and equipment following manufacturer and professional guidelines for cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization. Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to avoid delays in patient care. Collaborate with healthcare providers to adjust patient care plans and surgical setups as needed. Participate in revising preference cards and supply pull sheets to incorporate technological advancements. Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately. Patient Satisfaction
Work closely with the operative team to ensure smooth patient flow and timely preparation of instruments and supplies. Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient and staff experience. Exemplify excellent guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues. Patient Safety
Perform thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment. Plan and prepare for surgical interventions tailored to individual patient needs, adapting to unexpected changes. Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and maintain sterile field integrity, reporting any breaches immediately. Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment. Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring peers and new staff. Identify learning needs and collaborate with management to pursue professional growth opportunities. Participate in departmental goal setting and attend in-services on product and practice changes. Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals. Maintain a professional and calm patient environment, practicing AIDET communication principles. Foster a team-oriented atmosphere by being approachable and flexible with assignments and staffing needs. Education and Licensure
Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with registration as a Registered Nurse. Experience and Requirements
Demonstrated ability to work effectively under stress and manage multiple requests simultaneously. Commitment to maintaining a safe, sterile, and professional operating room environment. Willingness to work a full-time first shift schedule with 40 hours weekly.
This position is located in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest area of the United States.
