Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region as a Surgical First Assistant. This role involves collaborating closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and surgical staff to deliver exceptional patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. Utilizing sterile techniques and specialized equipment, you will play a vital role in supporting surgical operations. Key Responsibilities
Prepare surgical cases accurately using physician preference cards and appropriate instruments. Apply medical knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assist in surgeries. Maintain aseptic techniques, demonstrate dexterity, and anticipate the needs of the surgical team. Operate sterilization equipment following established protocols. Monitor and manage implantable devices with sterile technique and ensure proper function. Inspect and prepare surgical equipment prior to procedures. Assist in patient positioning safely under physician guidance. Provide clear visualization of the operative site and assist in maintaining hemostasis. Support the surgeon in closing body planes and applying wound dressings as ordered. Work independently, manage time efficiently, and maintain a clean and organized workspace. Perform delegated tasks to uphold quality and patient safety under surgeon supervision. Education Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required. Experience Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory. Certifications and Licenses
Current Surgical Technologist Certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. First Assistant Certification is preferred.
Mental and Physical Requirements This position demands considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Expect regular exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional interactions with challenging individuals. Physical discomfort is minimal.
