DescriptionBrief Summary: The Respiratory Care Supervisor manages the Respiratory Care Department, Sleep Lab, and Cardiopulmonary Services at Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital (SSMH). This position assures high-quality care is provided to patients in need of cardiopulmonary and sleep diagnosis services. The following duties provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. They ARE NOT a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Essential Job Functions:
Supervises cardiopulmonary care in response to patient needs supported by professional knowledge, research, and reflective practice.
Ensures delivery of clinically appropriate respiratory care procedures.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficiency in respiratory care, treatment, and services.
Serves as a subject matter expert on cardiopulmonary care for other healthcare professionals.
Ensures adequate staffing to provide safe and effective cardiopulmonary patient care.
Instructs and orients Respiratory Therapists and other allied health professionals.
Actively maintains the Sleep Lab accreditation in collaboration with the Quality Department.
Plans and coordinates department activities.
Embraces and consistently demonstrates SSMH initiatives.
Monitors and evaluates department operations and services through organized continuous quality improvement initiatives to improve patient care.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualification:
Five (5) years of Respiratory Therapy experience required. Supervisory experience preferred. Education & Experience: Must be registered or registry eligible by the National Board Respiratory Care (NBRC). Registry eligibility includes:
18 years old AND
Hold a minimum of an associate degree from a respiratory therapy education program supported or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). OR
Be a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) for at least four years before the examination for RRT certification and have 62 college credits. OR
Be CRT for at least two years before the RRT examination and have a minimum of an associate degree from an accredited entry-level respiratory care education program. OR
Be a CRT for at least two years before the RRT examination, and hold a baccalaureate degree in an area other than respiratory care, and have at least 62 college credits from an accredited program. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Current BLS certification required
ACLS certification preferred at date of hire, required within six (6) months of hire.
PALS certification preferred at date of hire, required within six (6) months of hire.
NRP certification preferred at date of hire, required within six (6) months of hire.
