Overview At Southern Methodist University, the OIT Project Manager will be part of the Project Management Office (PMO) within the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Under general direction, the candidate will facilitate, coordinate, and support multiple OIT projects from initiation to completion. The position works with cross‑functional teams across campus to meet business objectives.
Job leveling (IT Project Manager or Senior IT Project Manager) and compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Essential Functions
Project Management – Lead and manage all aspects of multiple projects, including defining project goals, objectives, scope, schedule estimates, resources, and cost, and coaching the project team as needed.
Communication – Effectively coordinate and communicate progress among project teams, customers, and appropriate levels of management.
Risk Awareness – Pro‑actively identify and analyze project risks; plan and implement risk responses.
Relationship Building – Develop strong relationships with all project stakeholders.
Other Duties – Business Process Analysis, System Analysis, Team Dynamics administration, and other duties as assigned.
Change Management – Support individuals and team resources to navigate organizational changes throughout the project lifecycle.
Occasional travel for conferences and training may be required.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree and five years of work experience; or
Bachelor’s degree and three years of work experience.
Preferred: degree in Project Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration.
Preferred: experience managing software development, infrastructure, or other IT projects with multiple integrations; higher‑education experience desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with PMBOK‑based principles and practices.
Experience using Visio or similar tools for mapping business processes.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tools such as TeamDynamix.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong project management, time management, problem‑solving, organizational, and planning skills.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Sit for long periods of time.
