Job Summary PayPal’s Credit Platform team builds the core foundation behind PayPal’s global credit ecosystem, powering products such as Credit Cards, Buy Now Pay Later, Working Capital, and Merchant Term Loans for millions of customers and businesses worldwide. Our platform supports credit products in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Australia, with continued expansion planned. We develop core credit capabilities through well-defined APIs that power the full credit lifecycle—from offers and eligibility to application, account management, asset sales and beyond—enabling consistent, scalable experiences across products and markets. Essential Responsibilities Directly manage software development projects (including program management) and execution through individual contributors. May also lead project teams across platforms or groups Implement processes to drive strong operational hygiene for all components and systems within the group Responsible for the delivery of projects, including quality and timeliness, that impact their domain and potentially one other Demonstrate strong tactical ability by managing the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope where analysis requires an understanding of current business or trends Communicate technical issues with non-technical audiences Analyze multiple sources of information and identify & resolve complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development Collaborate with direct team, managers in org, members of various resulting team, stakeholders such as Product Owners & PMO Minimum Qualifications 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience Role Scope & Impact Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team delivering scalable, low-latency, and highly reliable credit systems Own a defined platform area with significant business impact on several credit initiatives Drive execution and technical direction for complex, cross-team initiatives What You’ll Do Drive predictable delivery by managing priorities, risks, and cross-team dependencies Partner with Product, Risk, and several PayPal teams to build robust solutions Guide architecture and ensure systems meet high standards for reliability, observability, and data integrity Establish and track SLOs, KPIs, and operational metrics to continuously improve system performance Champion engineering excellence across code quality, testing, and incident management Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform scalability and maintainability Leadership & Growth Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and psychological safety Mentor senior engineers and help grow future technical and people leaders Drive clarity in goals, roles, and expectations aligned with broader organizational priorities What Makes You a Strong Fit Thrive in ambiguous, high-stakes environments and make sound trade-offs across business, technical, and risk considerations Bring a data-driven mindset with a focus on measurable outcomes and continuous improvement Communicate effectively and translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences Influence outcomes beyond your immediate team in a matrixed organization Contribute to multi-quarter roadmap planning and technical strategy Equal Employment Opportunity Statement PayPal provides equal employment opportunity (EEO) to all persons regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, genetic information, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.
