The Business Development Specialist is responsible for pursuing and generating new business leads, identifying points of contacts within prospective customers, and securing appointments with viable customers. This position conducts research to identify prospective customers, utilizes written communication to access organizations, and assertively pursues leads to secure initial contact and establish relationships with new customers.
Essential duties and responsibilities include identifying potential customers using prospecting databases, social media, networking, and other methods; developing and distributing marketing content to potential customers; vigorously pursuing appointments with viable prospects and customers; collaborating with key internal stakeholders to drive new opportunities and coordinate initial customer contacts and meetings; staying steadfast and overcoming objections to set initial appointments and move prospects through the sales cycle; operating in a consistent manner that builds company brand awareness; generating and maintaining a robust pipeline by consistently adding new prospects to the pipeline and driving consistent movement of prospects through the sales stages; assisting the sales team in the development of customer presentations; preparing monthly customer status update reports and presenting to Senior Business Leadership; maintaining ongoing awareness of the competitive environment and other market conditions; and performing other duties as assigned.
Education/experience required includes a B.S. degree in Engineering, Marketing, Supply Chain, Industrial Distribution, and Business-related field, or equivalent experience. Internship or sales experience is a plus.
Qualification, skills, and abilities include a bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience); 0-1 year of experience in sales, business development, or lead generation; a high standard of professionalism and ethics; preferred style of teamwork, collaboration, and humility; self-starter, self-motivated, and ability to manage and drive own schedule; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and with written communications; effective persuasive skills and ability to overcome objections; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; and travel estimated at 10%.
Starting pay is $57,000. Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and, in some instances, may include education, skills, work experience, and certifications. You may also be eligible to participate in an annual incentive bonus. An incentive bonus, if any, depends on various factors such as organizational performance.
